Vista-'s Story

Update 09/30/05 from her Foster/Adoptive mom: "Today Vista (and Jack) went to my hairdresser's, Kathy, with me. She is a great animal lover, and practically requires me to bring a dog when I come. Vista did very well walking in the Old Port, and received lots of love and hugs from Kathy. She comes with me everywhere (as does Jack) and is becoming quite the seasoned socialite. She met a little terrier in a small park who fell instantly in love with her (that beautiful face and shiny coat gets them every time!), and wanted to "marry" her on the spot. These city men! She loved the attention, and
had a big smile on her face, but I had to warn her that these city boys may move a little fast for a sweet Southern girl like herself! Tomorrow we are going to give her a distemper booster and a 2nd worming. I'm sure you have heard about this new dog flu that has shown up in Fla. and Mass. Another good reason for everyone to make sure that their dogs get Kennel Cough vaccines and booster shots. I guess by now it's pretty obvious that even all the National Guards in
New Orleans couldn't pry this special dog away from me. I definitely want to adopt Vista. It is hard to believe that she has been here less than 2 weeks, because it feels like she has always been here. I am as attached to her as she is to me, and is a perfect fit with the rest of my crazy zoo. "

Update: 09/13/05: Vista has found a very generous foster home who will treat her. She will be available in a few months and is fostered in Naples.

Update: 09/12/05: Vista apparently was never put on Heartworm preventatives and has contracted heartworm. The sad part is that HW is a preventable disease. The good thing is, Vista is young and should do well with treatment! Vista needs a sponsor to have her treated, a foster home to treat her in for several months and lots of TLC. She is looking for a family to do this for her. HW positive dogs do not have a chance in the south and usually euthanized early. If you can, please help Vista.

Vista is a beautiful purebreed lab. She is very loving and extremely calm. She loves to play with a ball and will sit on command. Vista is approximately 1 year old. She is very affectionate and would love to share that with someone that will provide her with the same!

THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING FOR A KILL-SHELTER IN ARKANSAS FULL OF HURRICANE DOGS!!

Due to Hurricane related displacement, even owner surrender dogs are now on the euthanasia list to make room for more dogs from the Hurricane. Dogs are coming into this shelter from Louisiana on a daily basis. We are putting together a transport to New England for willing Fosters and Adopters alike, in order to save as many dogs as possible. If you can help by Fostering for several weeks or months until homes are found for these Southern dogs, please contact us immediately. These animals are in dire need of homes, if you cannot provide a home, sponsors & fosters are needed for heartworm treatment for some of them. Even just fostering a healthy dog will help save lives!!!! Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and should be e-mailed to chris_embassy@hotmail.com. Transportation from Marion, Arkansas, is a paid transport. The adoption fee is $200.00 for altered dogs. (includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from AR)
