Meet Vera! Vera is described as very sweet natured, gentle, loving and playful. Once she gets to know you she loves to cuddle and be around her people – she is always so excited for you to come home! Vera loves to run around and be chased by her canine foster siblings and would do very well with a dog with a similar energy level. Her favorite thing to do is chew socks so be sure to pick them up!
Vera can be unsure of new people at first but with slow and gentle introductions (and a few treats!) she warms up quickly. She would be good with children, but can be a bit mouthy in play and would do best with older kids who understand dog etiquette and can participate in her on-going training. She is both cat and dog social.
The perfect family for Vera would be an active family who has experience with puppies. Vera would also benefit greatly from having another dog pal around so she won’t be lonely and bored when people aren’t home. If this is not possible, she would love a family that can take her to dog day care for socialization. Vera has been gaining in confidence thanks in part to the example of her canine foster siblings.
Vera is a typical puppy and needs a family who can provide her with the exercise and mental stimulation she needs. Although she would love to have a home with a fenced yard where she can expend some extra energy after her walks, she would probably do okay in a condo provided her exercise needs were met. She walks well on leash and is looking for a home that can provide consistent potty breaks throughout the day to help her along with her house training.
Vera has not been left alone for too long, but when her foster family does go out, she is crated. She will go into her crate willing in exchange for a treat and settles, but is very happy to see you when you return. Still a puppy, Vera is learning what is and is not an appropriate chew toy and so when she cannot be supervised, she should be left in a puppy proofed room or her crate. So far Vera has learned sit and lay down, and she will come if you call her name. She is also learning “no”. She is looking forward learning some new skills and tricks!
As a condition of the adoption contract, Vera’s new family will be required to:
- Attend a basic obedience class (proof of enrollment required)
- Provide consistent potty breaks throughout the day to ensure her continued success with potty training
- Provide plenty of socialization opportunities - both human and dog. It is critically important at this stage!
