Velvet Poodle Mix Owensboro, KY

Velvet is a nine month old poodle mix looking for a special kind of home. She had a rough start early in life and has significant fear issues as a result. It takes time for her to warm up to new people, so it is critical that her new family be very patient with her as she processes a new environment. Unlike many fearful dogs, Velvet does not (so far) show signs of aggression when she is afraid. She simply shuts down. Her new family will need to be extra observant of situations where she may be overwhelmed and know when to give her space to decompress until she is confident in her new home.

Once Velvet is comfortable with you, her true self emerges. She’s a (large) puppy through and through - loves to run, play, and dive into the doggy pool at her foster home. A fenced yard would be ideal for Velvet, and she’d do well with (but doesn’t require) an appropriately-sized dog friend who can handle that puppy energy during play time.

Velvet does best with dogs her size or larger (she is approximately 50 lbs). She has cats in her foster home, and will attempt to start a chase but is easily redirected. She has done ok with children in her foster home, but we feel it would be best that she goes to a home with older, respectful children or no children. She is crate trained and working on house training. Velvet is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Velvet is being fostered by Terri Spencer, trainer and co-owner at Kentucky Canine Campus. Terri is offering free private lessons to help Velvet’s new family learn the best ways to continue working with her once she’s settled into her new home.
