Vegeta's Story
Why Choose Me?

Update:

Foster update: We are absolutely obsessed with our newest foster, Vegeta. He is the sweetest boy and loves to cuddle more than anything! He's potty trained and we are working on crate training. He's great with all people, dogs, and cats. V is truly such a wonderful dog who has spent the last few months waiting for a new home!

*************************************

Update: Everyone meet Vegeta!! Vegeta is a two year old certified good boy who I have the pleasure of advocating for. I think the easiest way to show how much love I have for this dog is going through the motions with him on my very first time meeting him (as if I was a potential adopter meeting him for the first time):

1. I took him out of his kennel without missing a beat. He was an angel to leash, slipping his head in himself, clearly knowing it was time to go and play.
2. We went straight to the intersection pen, no problems or interruptions. He walked alongside me until we were safely in and he could be unleashed.
3. From the second we got in the play yard, he worked very hard to show me how awesome he was. We started our time together by simply introducing each other to one another- which honestly just means I fed him plenty of treats and he sat on command like a good boy.
4. He did try to jump on me when he got excited and wanted kisses and pets. However, with a slight turn of body and the words "no jump" he stopped. He was clearly an awesome in house dog.
5. When he was in the interaction pen, other dogs were beside us. He was very interested in them and wanted to play! I later learned he lived in a house with another dog sibling- who was recently adopted, Goku.
6. We played and played and played. Vegeta LOVES toys, specifically enrichment toys. He is such a people pleaser, clearly showing off how easy to teach he would be for a future owner.
7. Though he loved playing, he was also stoked when he got the opportunity to rest, just hanging out under the picnic table.
8. When the day was over, he happily but his leash back on and walked back to his kennel. He was truly a good boy. I cant wait to see him again soon.

It's sometimes easy to miss the dogs who don't jump on the fence for attention or show their biggest and best puppy dog eyes when they see you. However, it's often the dogs who live a quieter life that are the best, just like Vegeta.

********************

Update: Vegeta waits quietly in his kennel hoping for a chance to go outside. When someone stops, he perks up and is ready to go. Vegeta LOVES to play and has a great time playing fetch. He's good about letting me have his toy to throw again, and then he's off to keep our game going. After playtime, Vegeta is a great buddy to relax with. He'll lie beneath the picnic table or sit beside me with his head on my lap. He loves scratches, praise, and giving kisses. He really is a good boy. He lived with another dog and has been friendly to other dogs in adjoining interaction pens. Sometimes, it's easy to miss the quiet dogs who aren't trying to get your attention, but spend some time with Vegeta and see what a super dog he is!

Vegeta greeted me at his gate happy to leave his kennel. When we reached the interaction pen, he spent most of his time with me in the shade. As I was scratching the middle of his back, I found his "sweet spot," and he loved that. He also liked getting on my lap and giving me hugs. I later learned that Vegeta came in with his neighbor Goku, and they're from the same home. That would explain that whenever one passed the other's gate, they wagged their tails and wanted to touch noses.

You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA.
