Foster updates:
Uma will do well in a home with older children and without other dogs.

“Uma is happy and loving. Coy! Always down for cuddles and pets. In love with her crate. Puts herself to bed every night at approximately 9:30pm... unless she’s in a party mood. Uma has not been tested with cats or children yet.

Uma is extremely affectionate and meeting new people is her favorite thing in the world. She is constantly itching for human companionship and would sit in your lap and give you kisses all day if you’d let her. She listens well, is very eager to please and is typically very gentle and calm but also gets excited for walks outside. Sadly, she hasn’t always been treated well by humans and she will cower at sudden movements or loud noises. However, she is getting more confident with each day and with each new person she meets who show her only affection. It’s incredible how a dog who was treated so poorly by people can still love them so much!”

Uma is Crate Trained, Leash trained, Slightly active, Does well in a car, Likes toys, Obedient, Playful, Affectionate, Goofy & Gentle

Uma’s Story
For several years, I was owned by some men, used as a breeding dog, and tethered in a backyard. I've had a pup companion named Ethan for a while now (he's my best friend and a new Streetdog too!) But that was the only life I ever known. Last September, I stopped receiving food from my ""owners"" because they didn't want to pay for it anymore, and I withered away to almost nothing. I had laid down in the hot sun and became very weak. I nearly decided that it was my time to go, but some people were passing by, approached me, and brought me food and water. They began visiting me everyday for months to try to gain my trust. I stayed as far as I could, because I didn't know that humans could be kind, but slowly, day by day, they always came back. They always spoke kindly to me, they always brought food, some toys and even some blankets when it started getting cold.

A few weeks ago, the lights in the house that I "belonged to" got shut off for good and all signs of "my owners" were gone. I had been abandoned officially. But the neighbors kept coming and kept visiting. They started searching for rescue help. When it got below freezing these past few weeks, they loaded me in a car and took me to a vet for boarding. This was as much help as my neighbor friends could offer and I will always be grateful to them. It's the first vet care I have ever received. I got some shots, my first bath, and got spayed. We found out that I am heartworm positive. Streetdog Foundation was contacted about my situation and came and scooped me and my friend, Ethan, up.

We are now meeting new human and pup friends, and learning moe about kindness and trust. I'm a little shy at first, but once I love, I love BIG! I was born around 1/25/2013 and on my way to beating these pesky heartworms and officially becoming adoptable. So far I LOVE car rides, and I love booty scratches and hugs. Leashes and stairs are still kinda scary to me but I think I'll end up liking those soon! I have soulful eyes and a big silly grin and can't wait to find out what it is like to live inside a house! So if you can foster me or even better, adopt me, I would love to meet you!

Medical Update: Uma has successfully completed her heartworm treatment.

Behaviors not listed have yet to be tested.
