Meet Uhura

Uhura arrived with her sister, Miramanee. They'd been shadowing folks in the neighborhood for several weeks, trying to communicate their need for a safe, loving home.

With a guesstimated birthday in Sept., Uhura weighs about 30 lb. She seems to be Euphrates' mini-me, but they weren't found in the same place and surrendered by different people.

Uhura is very affectionate and wants to be where her people are. She displays some behaviors similar to a "velcro" dog with wanting to be with her people, even when loose in the yard. She arrived with no leash savvy, but is gaining confidence on walks. She would be most comfy in a 42" crate to allow her to sprawl. She is learning that crates are safe places, but is reluctant to go in. She has a need to sub-vocalize when anxious.

She has demonstrated house manners when kept on a regular schedule (every hour) and crated when she can't be supervised. She can't always wait in her crate all night without making a mess. These are lessening and may have to do with her anxiety when walking before bedtime.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
