Meet Tyler

Please read Tyler’s description carefully and ONLY inquire if you meet the requirements below.

Tyler must be the only pet in the home. Tyler needs a tall wood privacy fence, no short chain link fences 4 ft tall. No children in the home, if kids visit, it must not be often as Tyler is not used to kids and was previously abused and has trust issues.

Tyler is a beautiful dog, but PLEASE don’t inquire because he’s handsome. He needs a person with extensive dog experience, someone who’s raised multiple dogs over the years please. Tyler does best with women and has only lived with women. He’s met 2 men ever that he trusted. He will not be adopted to a home with men alone, there needs to be a woman in his home.
Tyler is a darling boy but a very special dog with specific needs.

Please read below and only inquire if you meet his requirements below and are serious about helping a dog with special needs and behavior issues.

Tyler is a 6 year old, male, Terrier/Poodle mix, and weighs around 30 lbs. He's a gorgeous boy and is very loving once he gets to know and trust you. Tyler needs extra time to get used to new people and will do best after a few introductions. He was very scared when we first got him and he didn't trust anyone. A trainer said he was previously abused which makes sense why it takes time for him to become comfortable with new people.

He loves our volunteers, who he knows and trusts. He needs a calm, loving person and home, and someone with a lot of dog experience. He doesn't like strangers coming up to him until he gets to know them well. He must have the right adopter and right home for this to work out. He will do best in a very calm, quiet home with someone who will be patient until he comes out of his shell. An apartment will not work. Not a home with much company or out of town visitors either. Preferably a one or two person home with no children or grandchildren. Tyler is not good with small kids at all.

If someone will give him a chance, they will be very happy they did. He’s one of the most loving dogs ever and even likes to give hugs around your neck!
Tyler loves to play with toys and to go for walks and especially likes to hang out on the sofa. He rides great in the car also. He must be the only pet in the home. Other animals who get too close really seems to bother him. He has never been around children and given that he's nervous with new people at first, kids will not be suitable for him. The most important thing is a calm, quiet home with one or two people, preferably someone a little older and more settled. Young adults, out of college, engaged or who will have children in the future won't be the right match for Tyler. He’s still very active so we’d like someone in the 40-60 year old age range.

In order for Tyler to get used to someone new, it will take several introductions.
We've had dogs like Tyler in the past and when we take things slow, they work out beautifully for the dog and for the adopter.
