Meet Tulip
Meet Tulip! Tulip is one of the many new arrivals who came into our program recently from Tepic, Mexico. Tulip is an adorable "low-rider" Street Dog girl who appears to be a mix of Shepherd and Dachshund or Corgi. She's approximately 3 years old and weighs around 30 pounds. She's a healthy girl, is spayed and is also up to date on her shots. She's one of the lucky more than 50 dogs the SDH team brought up to the States from a recent international spay/neuter clinic in Tepic, Mexico. Tulip was living at a government shelter in Tepic with dozens of other dogs of all different sizes. She captured our attention and hearts and we knew we had to bring her home to give her a chance at finding her forever family in the States. Tulip is now settling in with a foster family in Oregon, so stay tuned for more updates and details to come from her foster family. Apply today and don't miss your chance to bring this sweet girl home to start your home trial towards adopting her. Will you be her hero?
Update from her foster family:
"Tulip is doing very well. She is housebroken and walks well on a leash. She's calm and she's quiet. She loves to go run about out in the field but when she's in the house, she is content to lay on a dog bed and chill. She enjoys attention, but she does not demand it. At night, she likes to find a quiet corner by herself and sleeps all night."
steps to adopting
Adoption applications will be kept on file for 1 year and can be applied towards multiple adoptions within that time frame.
The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application (Click on the orange "Start the Application Process" button above). Once submitted, the application may take a few days to be approved. Once approved it is good for multiple adoptions and saved for future use. The application will expire 1 year from when it was submitted.
To finalize an adoption you must sign the adoption contract and pay the full adoption fee of $550. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs between $500-$700 for vetting, transport, sterilization and more. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are vetted before they fly, given standard vaccines and rabies, dewormed, given flea/tick treatments and tested for heartworm. Most dogs are sterilized before they fly, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.
Upon arrival all dogs are seen for a wellness exam and parasite screening. Any parasite treatment necessary is at our expense.
Once the adoption is finalized, any further medical care or treatment will not be covered by SDH, unless discussed prior. All known issues are disclosed to the best of our ability prior to finalizing the adoption.
