Meet Tugger - Foster to Adopt

Tugger is an eight year old pure bred German Shepherd who has lots of spunk; he loves playing fetch and, as his name suggests, tug! He's a big strong guy who likes to talk, and he's super smart, already mastering cues like sit, shake, down, and more. Tugger is friendly and polite with other dogs on leash, but he hasn't had a chance to romp around with them yet. That's because he's currently undergoing treatment for heartworm and needs to stick to calm activity for a little while. For that reason, he is available for foster to adopt; you bring him home while we cover his heartworm treatments free at our clinic, and once that's all cleared up you finalize the adoption! It's a win-win-win! Tugger's ideal home is one without children, and with people who are experienced with large dogs. For the full details on Tugger and the foster to adopt process, e-mail trainer@spca914.org!

I am eligible for foster to adopt. I am currently receiving treatment for heartworm.
As a foster to adopt, I can receive the care I need in my forever home instead of at the shelter, and you can rest assured that the SPCA of Westchester will continue to treat the above condition free of charge at our Simpson Clinic only. Once I am cleared by the SPCA vet, you can officially adopt me and pay my adoption fee of $225.

When to Come: (Unless different date stated above)
Unless noted differently above, our hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. Our adoptions are first come, first served based on the best match.

What to Bring:
Please bring a copy of your current pet(s)’ vaccination records and a copy of your lease (if you rent or own a condo/co-op/townhouse) in case we are unable to get hold of your veterinarian or landlord/management company on the day you come in.

Adoption Process:
We do same day adoptions, except in the case of dogs that require more than one visit prior to adoption. Our adoptions are first come, first served based on the best match. Some dogs require all residents of your home and household dog(s) to be present for a meet and greet.

We do not accept adoption fee deposits in advance, nor do we hold animals, unless it is an animal that requires more than one visit prior to adoption. In this case, an appointment can be scheduled with a senior staff member or trainer. Some dogs require all residents of your home and household dog(s) to be present for a meet and greet. If they are not present, we cannot hold the dog.

Adoption Fees; What’s Included:
All dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and dewormed (age appropriate), and come with a free veterinary visit from a participating vet within seven days of adoption. Pre-existing medical conditions are covered via our Simpson Clinic free of charge within the first 30 days of adoption.

Adults dogs over 1 year of age: $225-$375
All Puppies: $375
Seniors and Lonely Hearts Club members: $85
