Trudy's Story

Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico's streets. No, not 100% yet -- Please keep in mind that our dogs are rescued off the streets, they are NOT always 100% housebroken and will need time and patience to adjust. Even in a foster home in Mexico, the dogs are often living in an environment with no carpet or grass or living outside. In the house, it is usually tile flooring and outside it is dirt/concrete. Most of our dogs transition well and only need about 1-2 weeks to get on a potty schedule/routine.

• LOCATION: Currently in Guadalajara foster care. 2-4 weeks to arrange flight once adoption is approved

**Meet Trudy**

We couldn’t believe our ears when we heard that Trudy was found in a landfill, sealed inside a plastic bag, left to die among the piles of garbage. Fortunately a young boy discovered her trapped inside, and freed her from the bag before it threatened her life.

For days, maybe weeks, this tiny survivor ran through the garbage piles, surviving on scraps, terrified of humans who tried to approach her. Who could blame her? The last time she'd trusted people, they'd thrown her away ruthlessly.

Our volunteer that rescued her watched her from a distance for days, speaking softly, patiently waiting for her to open up her trust. Until finally, one day, Trudy allowed herself to be caught. It was the moment everything changed.

**From Terror to Trust**

This small, 11-pound ball of resilience transformed from a terrified scavenger into one of the most sociable, affectionate dogs you'll ever meet. Look at Trudy now and witness something truly remarkable: a dog who has every reason to fear humans but chose to trust instead. Her smile lights up the whole room, and you'd never guess what she's been through. Her loving spirit is unbreakable, and she refuses to let her tragic past define her.

At her foster home, Trudy’s discovered that her favorite activities are car rides and naps in the sun, simple pleasures that she probably didn’t have the privilege to enjoy before. She thoroughly enjoys every car outing she gets to go on—windows down, wind in her face, nose busily surveying every place she passes by.

Her perfect day? Being close to her people, feeling loved, and maybe taking a drive to somewhere new where she can experience the world as it should have been all along—full of kindness instead of cruelty.

**The easiest dog to have around**

There’s no dog easier to be with than Trudy. She’s friendly with other dogs, gentle with cats, and wonderful with children. She's mastered house training (90% reliable and now prefers going outside), walks beautifully on leash, and stays calm in a crate when needed. She doesn't shed excessively, doesn't bark constantly, and has zero food guarding issues. One wonders why such a perfect dog would have been thrown out of a home in the first place.

At eight years old and just a compact 11 pounds, Trudy is a low-key, calm presence that doesn't require much space or attention. Her bright black eyes sparkle with affection, her lopsided grin is irresistible, and those alert ears catch every opportunity for adventure—making her impossible not to love.

The only requirement for Trudy’s perfect home is a family that can provide her the warmth, kindness, and constancy that this beautiful girl deserves.

**Ready for her second chance at happiness**

Trudy’s proven she can forgive the unforgivable. She's shown she can trust after betrayal. She's demonstrated that survival isn't just about living—it's about choosing to love again despite every reason not to.

Her strength and resilience inspires us every day, and we only hope that we can find her a family that can give her the life she truly deserves. She's looking for someone who sees beyond the trauma to the incredible spirit that refused to break, who recognizes that the dog thrown away like trash is actually pure gold.

Are you the soulmate that Trudy’s been searching for?

***************************************

READY TO APPLY?
