Meet Trooper

Trooper is the definition of a best friend. A gentle soul who loves humans and is looking to live out his days surrounded by the love and support he deserves.

Trooper came to Pet haven not having had the easiest life prior. It is presumed that Trooper was struck by a car in his past and was not given immediate medical attention. As a result, he has a very damaged hip. After coming up from Texas, amputation was considered but there was no magical way to tell if that would reduce his pain or cause him more as he is still able to use his leg. His pain is managed with a low dose of meds that will ultimately wear out his liver and kidneys but so that he can live out a comfortable life. Trooper is looking for a loving home that will be able to provide palliative care. His medications cost between $30 and $50 each month and he is on a special diet for his joints. Adopters will also need to commit to checking his kidney and liver values regularly.

IF YOU ARE STILL READING THIS… WE ARE SO EXCITED AND WANT TO TELL YOU MORE ABOUT THE AMAZING AND COURAGEOUS TROOPER WHO WILL ADD SO MUCH LOVE INTO YOUR LIFE!

Trooper is almost nine, and an absolutely wonderful dog. He truly deserves to spend his remaining time with humans who will love and advocate for him. Walks are a huge part of his day! He needs at least three (15 minutes each) to keep his hip mobile and comfortable. And, he LOVES to be on the move!

Trooper, the 58-pound lap dog, will maneuver any which way to get pets. He LOVES belly scratches and will smile an adorably goofy grin when he gets them. If you choose to stop petting him, he will remind you to keep petting him with a gentle paw nudge.

Trooper does enjoy the company of other calm dogs, kind of like him! He’s at the point in his life where too much energy is not his thing. And with kids, while he absolutely loves all humans he meets, for Trooper’s sake, it would be best if children in the home are dog-savvy and aware of his physical limitations.

Stairs are one thing where Trooper will need limited to none, if possible. He can go up or down a few, but with his hip, it would be much better if he didn't have to do that.

Trooper is a calm, gentle best friend who will be the listening ear when you need to talk, the cuddly companion when you just want to lounge out, and the friend to go on daily walks with to keep you both active! All he asks for in return are ample belly scratches, unconditional love, and continued support as he lives out the rest of his days.
