Meet Trixie

Trixie is a young petite female German Shepherd dog who was picked up in a rural area by animal control. We estimate that Trixie is around 1 year old. When she came into rescue she was thin with bare patches of skin on her face and ears indicating significant neglect. She weighs 52 pounds.

Trixie is a happy-go-lucky, loves-every-person, kind of girl. She wants to meet every person and every dog she sees. She is submissive and squirmy when approaching adult dogs and very much acts like a puppy.

Since coming to rescue Trixie has been in 2 foster homes.

In her first home she lived with 4 resident GSDs and 2 indoor cats. In this environment we learned she is fine with the house cats. She was allowed free time in the house with the cats as long as her foster family was present. She was not allowed to be free around the outdoor barn cat. Trixie learned to use a dog door to access an outdoor kennel when she needs a potty break. Trixie rides quietly in the car and doesn’t get car sick.

Trixie did well with the large pack of dogs in this home but training in a situation like this is challenging, and we moved her so she could benefit from some one-on-one attention.

In her second foster home Trixie lived as an only dog with a single woman who is home most of the time. In this home she started training.

Her foster mom says she will wait to walk through a door and will sit, stay, and down on command. She waits to eat until prompted. She has a soft mouth when taking treats. Currently she is working on sitting from a down position. She is improving at walking on leash.

Trixie is quiet both indoors when crated and outdoors when kenneled. She doesn’t bark at the horses. Trixie bonds quickly to her people and wants to be with them. She is a very athletic dog and follows her foster mom where ever she goes, up and over obstacles.

Trixie would excel in a home with people who have time to continue to work on her training. A fenced yard would be great so she can get plenty of exercise. She is fine living with a compatible dog friend and would be okay as an only dog as long as she has people around more than they are gone.
