UPDATE: Trixie is not hypoallergenic. At this time she has received a multitude of applications. Please be patient with us as we review them.

Trixie is an adorable, sassy little girl, possibly a shih tzu, poodle, long haired dachshund mix? She was severely matted when a good Samaritan found her on the street and brought her to the shelter, and she was in a great deal of pain. The shelter staff shaved and bathed her, and her hair is finally beginning to grow back in!

Trixie is adorable and affectionate! Like many small dogs, she has a “big” personality. She didn’t want to be touched or held for the first few days, most likely because her skin was still very sensitive. After she settled in, her foster family was able to pick her up and cuddle with her, and she has become their new lap dog. She likes being held but her favorite thing is to jump on her foster mom’s lap and be petted and have her ears scratched.

Trixie definitely has some quirks. She seems to be part cat, and she makes her foster mom laugh daily when she finds her on top of her desk, or on the table, or investigating the top of the piano. She does absolutely no damage, she is just curious. She is learning to sit quietly in a chair when her foster family eats, and that tables are not for dogs, even cute little ones. Trixie loves every single person that comes into the house, however, when they go to leave she gets upset and barks and jumps at the door until she can’t see them anymore. She apparently doesn’t like it when her friends leave. She does calm down quickly, and she does not have separation anxiety, as her foster family frequently leaves her alone in the house uncrated with her foster dog siblings, and she is not destructive.

We think that Trixie may have been wee-wee pad trained in her previous home, and it took a good month for her to be completely housebroken. Now she loves going outside and going for walks, and she has not had any housebreaking issues since! Trixie gets along well with her foster siblings (a large male, a large female, and a small female). She is a bit bossy, even with the male, and she doesn’t really engage them in play, but give her a tennis ball or a stuffed toy and she will frolic and toss them around the house with glee.

Trixie is about 6 years old and weighs about 18 pounds. She is still a bit thin, but she is not picky and will eat any type of dry dog food and treats, so fattening her up a bit will not be a problem. She does grumble and growl a bit when she is nervous, so we are recommending a home without small children. She has never escalated to biting and usually her “grumbles” are more like “talking”, so older dog savvy children aged 13 and up would probably be fine.

Trixie would be fine in a home with other dogs, but she would also be fine as your one and only. She is spayed, up to date on all her shots, heartworm negative, microchipped, and (finally) completely housebroken. Her shaved hair is growing in nicely and it will be so pretty when it is longer! She has beautiful, soulful eyes and once you gain her trust she will be your best friend.
