Trigger is a whip smart, super athletic ACD, who came to ACDRA after being found as a stray in GA. He’s a beautiful boy who is focused and intense, and would excel at agility, nose work, or any other dog sport. Trigger is high energy when outside, but is able to relax inside. True to breed, he’s very devoted to his person, and wants nothing more than to be near them. He is cautious meeting new people, and will need careful intoductions. He gets along fine with his older foster sister, and respects that she doesn’t want to play often.

It would seem that Trigger was not exposed to many things in his previous home and as a result he can be easily overstimulated and reactive in public. Cars, bicycles, etc., can provoke a reaction, although I’m finding that he stays enough below threshold that his attention can be diverted and he will sit for treats in these situations as long as there are not too many things going on at the same time. Seeing dogs on leash is another story, and will require a lot of behavior modification with positive methods. Trigger cannot go to a home in an apartment or densely populated urban area, as he would be unable to relax, and would bark at most noises at this time. He also jumps and can be mouthy, but is learning that this isn’t acceptable.

I truly believe Trigger will be able to overcome his reactivity, based on his temperament, but he will need to go to a home with ACD experience who understands that he will need work to become the dog I know he can be. He is very food driven and in most reactive situations has been able to be distracted by treats.

Trigger has a high prey drive and while a fenced yard isn’t required, it is preferred. He has not attempted to jump my 4 foot chain link fence, but he could easily do so. He will need to bond with his person and develop an excellent recall before being allowed off leash. He does love to run and chase a ball so a large yard would be preferred. No underground fencing please.
Due to his prey drive, no cats or other small pets. His jumping and mouthiness mean he should not go to a home with small children.

Trigger is crate trained and is content staying in his crate when his foster mom leaves the house. He is 4 years old, house trained, neutered, HW negative, and updated on all vaccines. When he arrived in foster care he had some hair loss and scratched constantly. After a flea/tick preventative, that stopped and the hair is growing back, but he will need to be kept on a preventative to avoid a repeat. He will be microchipped before being adopted. He must be crated in the car at this time due to his reactivity to oncoming traffic. Trigger has not displayed any destructive behaviors but will counter surf if unattended.

Trigger is really a sweet, loving dog who is super smart and will do best in a home where he is given a job to keep him mentally active as well as physically. He is being fostered in South Williamsport, PA.
