Meet TRENT (Prison Trained Greyhound)

Registered Name: Marlfield Trent
Call Name: Trent
Birth Date: May 1, 2019
Color: Black
Pedigree: (Laughbil Blake-Droopys Alberta)
PRISON TRAINED GREYHOUND

Trent came to us from Ireland and is a lovely, very happy, friendly, and playful boy. He is also confident and outgoing and loves to meet new people. He is not bothered by loud noises or traffic. Trent is very smart, obedient and intelligent. Trent is a gentleman around other greyhounds and gets along fine with other greyhounds. He has also become used to smaller dogs. In Ireland, he competed in 58 races and won 19 times with 10 second place finishes, so he was an outstanding racer. Trent would love a home with a fenced yard and an owner who would give him lots of attention. He weighs in at 74 lbs. so he is an average size for a greyhound boy. Trent has a super personality, and as you see in his photos, he is quite handsome. He is very quiet in the house, and sleeps through the night. He can live with smaller dogs if he is introduced slowly and correctly,

We have chosen Trent for the Greyhound Advancement Center's training program at Hardee Correctional Institution because of his intelligence and obedience. While there he will be taught all of his basic commands such as sit and lie down on command, come on recall, wait at the door, leave it, go to place (their bed or mat), stay, wait, heel, and a few other commands which his inmate trainer will choose. The greyhounds love being at the prison where they get lots of attention and love. They train the dogs with treats and Trent will get lots of treats while he is at Hardee. The inmate trainers have something important to do while they are incarcerated, and earn certifications as dog trainers which they can then use to help them gain employment when they are released. (The training program is in the work camp, so all of the inmates will eventually be released.) The inmates especially love the greyhounds for their quiet and gentle natures and excellent dispositions. You will get a well trained and well socialized dog, and the inmates have the greyhounds for company. It is a wonderful program for the dogs and the inmate trainers alike.

Trent's $700 adoption fee includes his transportation from Ireland to this country, his neuter, dental, vaccines, Bordetella (to protect against kennel cough), microchip, leash and collar, adoption guide, and 10 weeks of specialized training at the prison. Your adoption fee helps us to defray some of the veterinary and care costs we will incur for Trent, and will help us to continue our work on behalf of the greyhounds. For more information or to meet this friendly and playful boy, please contact us at 813/935-3247 or e-mail us at BAGA@tampabay.rr.com. For more information on greyhounds as pets, the prison training program, or to submit an application to adopt Trent, please go to our website: www.bayareagreyhounds.org. Trent has entered training and will graduate and be ready to go home with you in mid-July. If you adopt Trent, you will be eligible to attend his graduation at the prison.
