Meet Tor

Tor was adopted as a pup by his family. After 2 years, when their circumstances changed, they returned him to his original home. Unfortunately, the family's dogs wouldn't tolerate him in their yard and began ganging up on him.

With a guesstimated birthday in Feb. 2020, Tor weighs about 60 lb.

Tor isn't allowed in the foster's house as she has several cats that are too exciting - maybe he's allergic to them. When walking in the yard, Tor ignores the other dogs and is tolerant of the dogs that want to play. He is crated at night and never makes a mess or chews on his crate pad. He may need a refresher on house manners. Usually we recommend the new family allow for a potty break every hour the first day, crating in between to help them remember that they need to wait. The second day is every other hour and usually by the third day the dog is comfortable with the family schedule. .

Tor has shown affection and house manners to the family that had to surrender him. They have small children and, aside from accidently knocking them down due to his size and their poor balance, he was a good family dog. Tor isn't a face-kisser, but will rise on his hind legs to greet his people friends - not putting his paws on them, though.

Tor pulls strongly on the leash when not given sufficient exercise but is more amenable when allowed to run in the yard a few minutes to burn off energy before his walk. He loves to run and would condition well to be a runner's companion or taking long hikes over rough terrain.

Tor does well with dogs. He has been around smaller dogs, but shows excitement when he sees them initially. Due to his enthusiastic greeting style, he is supervised when meeting any new dog. He doesn't act aggressively, so once he meets them - appropriately supervised - he does well, even with the foster's 10 lb bossy chihuahua. He isn't particularly interested in other dogs, but is very curious.

The border collie brain and independent streak is demonstrated until Tor settles into a new situation. He wants to make sure that his handler can be trusted, but is now willing to load in the van and go into a crate when requested. He loves to drive by the fast food restaurants, as it usually means a french fry or sandwich tidbit. He takes treats very gently.

**********

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies.

Not all foster dogs are available for viewing during public events at Tractor Supply (360 Blowing Rock Blvd) in Lenoir, NC. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete.
