Meet Tootles!

This 8 week old border collie puppy comes from a litter of 8, with an incredible, perseverant backstory.

Their mother, Wendy, is a sweet, gentle 30 lb border collie who spent months tied to a tree in someone’s backyard, where she unsurprisingly fell pregnant.

When the puppies were just a few weeks old (not even old enough to be weaned), this litter was cruelly separated from their mother and kept in a cardboard box, outside in the cold. Neighbors were feeding them and alerted animal control, who did not take action.

The concerned neighbors feeding them alerted us when temperatures were dropping to under 30°F. We immediately stepped in, saving these puppies (and their mama) from the cold.

Days later, while in foster care, we noticed disturbing changes in mama and rushed her to the ER: She had been rat poisoned and nearly lost her life. She has since made a full recovery, $6,000 and several blood and plasma transfusions later. Fortunately none of the puppies ever fell ill.

Tootles is one of the two most rambunctious of the group, and one half of “the twins.” He is hilarious, bouncy, curious, very aware of his surroundings, and loving. He and Nibs have strong herding instincts and care to know/round up the litter. He’s a talkative guy. Loves dolling out kisses. He is happiest being held and walked around while you do chores - observing and getting attention. Tootles is a very well-rounded fun pup who will do best in a house with lots to stimulate him.

**Everyone in the litter has been heavily socialized with adults and kids, an extra large dog, and a playful cat. They thrived amongst all of this. They also all exhibit herding instincts.**

They are currently being fostered in Austin Tx, but can be transported anywhere in the US, at adopter’s expense.
