Tonka Shepherd Mix Palatine, IL

Tonka is my name: it means energetic, sociable, laid back, affectionate, friendly, even-tempered, and strong. How ironic! This is me in a nutshell! I’m a 6-month-old Shepherd mix weighing 40 pounds with unique markings that make me very handsome.

I am housebroken and currently on a schedule but can adapt to yours if it’s different. I am very treat motivated and have learned a very special command. — special because it is normally followed by a treat. My magic words are “watch me!” If we are walking (and, by the way, I walk really well on leash) and we see a ferocious squirrel from whom you must be protected, you can distract me with ”watch me.” I STOP whatever I am doing and come to sit in front of you and stare you down. I know my treat is coming. I also know sit and am working on down and off.

I enjoy my zoomies so a big fenced yard would be nice and I am hoping for a canine big brother or sister who can teach me even more. I like all other dogs and try to engage in play immediately. I would love to have young humans to play with — the more the better. They can throw the ball for me longer and we can roll in the grass and enjoy the day together. Little humans have such great energy!

Oh, another great thing about me: Foster Dad rarely needs to wash his hands or his face because I’m such an excellent licker. You’re welcome, Foster Dad! My crate is okay and though I may fuss a little I do settle down and sleep through the night. I’m not real vocal but an apartment or condo might not be my best habitat. My favorite toys are soft and squeaky and my favorite game is fetch.

I really want a family I can grow with and love. Please help me find my dream.
