Meet Tommy! Tommy’s foster mom describes him as a playful, curious, silly and obedient boy that will greet you bright eyed and bushy tailed every morning, hopping from side to side with a big smile. Before coming to us, Tommy had spent his entire life living outside on a chain. This lucky guy has now traded in the chain for a memory foam bed and a life of luxury.
Nicknamed Casanova, Tommy is an affectionate boy that knows how to use his dreamy eyes to secure pets and cuddles, and loooves snuggles with his foster mom (maybe even more than she does!). Tommy is a friendly boy that likes to meet new people, greeting them politely with a sniff and tail wag. He loves to play with his toys and chase after a ball or a stick found in the backyard. Tommy can be rough and tumble in play with other dogs, but he is also very sensitive and responds very well to correction and leadership.
Tommy’s ideal family will live in a quieter neighbourhood and can provide a balance of routine, exercise and love. Tommy is very intelligent, learns quickly and would love family that will enjoy teaching him new skills. He already knows his name, go to your bed (crate) and he will even sit and wait to be released before eating his meals. Tommy would likely do well with respectful kids old enough to participate in his ongoing training (10+), and with proper introductions he’s also dog social. His energy may be a bit too much for insecure or move submissive dogs though and so he’d do best with a dog of similar energy and personality. Tommy lives with cats now but can be a bit too playful with them and so dog savvy cats would fare best.
Tommy is an energetic guy and is looking for a family willing to ensure he receives the exercise he needs. In addition to adequate walks, he would also love fenced yard for play time and training opportunities. For the most part, he walks well on a loose lead, but may try to flee if he gets startled by loud noises or fast cars. He is not reactive to people or other animals.
Tommy is intelligent and food motivated and learns quickly. He already knows his name, go to your bed (crate), and he knows to sit and wait to be released before eating his meals. He is also working on learning to sit and wait before going outdoors which is important as he will try to run out an open door. He will also stand up at the fence to look over the gate and so it’s important he is always supervised when in the yard.
Tommy is crate trained and settles quickly. In time, he can work up to free reign but his family should be willing to crate at first until he is comfortable. Provided he receives consistent potty breaks, he is also house trained.
