Meet Toffee
8/29/11: TOFFEE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Date of birth: 5/01
6/24/11: Toffee is a super sweet and friendly Golden Retriever/Chow mix. He's a senior citizen, probably around 10 years old, and the poor guy had spent most of his life living on a chain. He'd been neglected and had no food or water when he was picked up by animal control. Toffee looked pretty rough before we cleaned him up and put some weight on him, but he's been very healthy in the several months he's been in our shelter. We'd like to find him a good home where he can live out his golden years in comfort and the love of his new family.
Toffee weighs 53 lbs and he's been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. He attends our satellite adoption events and loves to meet new people and ham it up! Toffee's still a peppy guy and he enjoys going for walks and he rides well in a car. He gets along with most other dogs. He keeps his kennel clean and we're pretty confident he'd housetrain very quickly.
Check out his video that was taken at a Petco adoption event-- he loves to play with squeaky toys!
Toffee just got a new summer haircut on 6/22/11, courtesy of the Brookside Barkery & Bath, and you can see how great he looks in the most recent photo!
Our adoption fee for senior dogs is just $50. We transferred Toffee to our shelter from the KCK Animal Control shelter as part of our Ray of Hope program*. Toffee does need a home without cats.
*Ray of Hope is a partnership between the Humane Society of Greater KC and the Kansas City Kansas Animal Control that has had amazing results: We've reduced KCK Animal Control's euthanasia from 70% in 2007 to under 1% in 2010. We utilize a network of rescue groups, other no kill shelters and adoption events. Our clinic provides the spay/neutering and other veterinary care. We need help to cover the costs associated with this life-saving program. If you can help us by donating to Ray of Hope, or by volunteering, please visit our web site at hsgkc.org.
MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...
> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (6 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, 5 lbs of Science Diet, toys, and educational materials including an excellent dog training DVD. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!
> Please visit the Pet Adoptions page of our web site for more information about our adoption process. An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. You can download a pet adoption application from our web site and then fax or email it back to us.
> Please note that most of our dogs do require a fenced yard, although there may some who are appropriate for apartment living or circumstances where a fence may not be required.
Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
