Meet Todd

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, when doing nothing was not boring – it was peace.” - Milan Kundera

Welcome Todd! This sweet old man is living the good life at 10 years old and just under 30 pounds. Todd has been around a while, so he knows exactly how to be a great companion. He is a very relaxed guy with plenty of affection to give.

Todd is housebroken and crate trained! He will gladly signal when he is ready to go outside by sitting and staring at his person until he is acknowledged. Not to worry if you don’t notice right away, though – if too much time goes by, he will whine to let you know he really wants to go outside now please. Although Todd is trained to hang out in his crate, he prefers to stay out with the other dogs and has been well-behaved in his foster home when he does. Todd knows “sit” and walks great on a leash - he just needs a front-clip harness to reduce pressure on his back.

Todd all about the dog friends and cat friends. He thinks dogs are super neat and tries to play with everyone right away. Todd has been in a home with school-aged children and treated them just the same as adults. He understands kids are a great place to snag more pets and cuddles! When they get too loud or rambunctious for his taste, he simply goes to a quieter spot. Todd is a laid back dude, but he sure does love his people-time. If it is time for affection, he will talk at you to let you know.

Speaking of laid back, Todd would really love a calm, quiet home due. He has arthritis, and our vet identified an old back injury which has led to intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), a painful condition that makes it difficult to move. Todd’s IVDD is simple to manage with medication, and he is responding very well. Foster mom says he’s acting like a puppy again ever since he had his teeth cleaned and started the anti-inflammatory medication. He’s come a long way since he first joined the ACR family - mom says you would never know that he once walked stiffly and deliberately when you see him romp and frolic today, constantly on the go with his nose to the ground. He is learning his new physical restraints, which is important to keep him from re-injuring his back. It’s best not to take him to the dog park, but he would love a nice, brief walk, supplemented by ample lounging and loving time. He loves to cuddle and sticks close to others.

Todd is a super chill bud looking for his newest bestest friends. (All friends are the bestest friends). He is a happy, loyal boy who promises to love you, talk at you, snuggle you, and be sooo so good, even when you aren’t watching. If that sounds like a good deal to you, please contact us!

If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250.

We typically adopt to homes within 30 minutes of Athens, GA, as we require a basic home check to ensure all dogs are placed in a safe environment. If you are further away than that and are interested in one of our pups, please still fill out an application and we can discuss your options.

We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at adopt@athenscaninerescue.com.
