Meet TJ

UPDATE 12/31/21: TJ has come a LONG way. He will now venture up to strangers if given a slow intro and adores pets from his person. TJ remains great with other dogs and has even been witnessed picking up a toy or two to play with the other dogs. TJ doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body, but he will still need to be treated with care in his future home since his first response is still to back away from anything he finds to be scary.
.
TJ (the T stands for TINY) is a textbook example of why folks who do not breed for the betterment of the breed, should not produce litters. TJ was bred by a backyard breeder and was not properly socialized. Unfortunately, TJ is pretty terrified of life at this point -- even after nearly a week here, he will choose stealth mode when humans are present -- note the first album photo.
.
That's the 'bad'.
.
This is the good:
*TJ LOVES other dogs and chooses to be with them which is especially helpful when working with a semi-feral pup.
*TJ LOVES his crate which is helpful for so many reasons. He's also 'very' quiet, not sure he's barked since he arrived.
*TJ will fling himself around, but if handled mindfully, will freeze and allow for leash on and off, and direction and guidance.
.
Those 'good' things may not seem like much, but they are indicative of a pup who with gentle and persistent guidance will come around t make a nice companion.
.
Our experience with feral and semi-feral dogs has shown us repeatedly that these dogs are very reachable, and will do best and will excel once placed into their permanent home.
.
TJ will do best in an experienced, multi-dog home that enjoys training and doing things with their dogs. Patient humans will be important, and TJ will not be offered to a home with young children, and older children should be dog experienced and equally patient.
.
We will share updates as we have them.
.
This dog is located in Maryland - we do not ship or transport dogs. For information on adoption, an FAQ, and our application, please see our website at mabcr.org. If you are interested in adoption, please submit an application, complete with documentation.
.
Dogs that have not lived previously with children will not be offered to homes where young children reside. We do not 'test' dogs with children or cats, since testing may not show an accurate picture, and may give false comfort to their new home. If a dog has lived with children or cats, that will be stated above.
.
Please note that some young dogs may be placed with a neuter deposit and contract, and any available dog may be placed with a training deposit and contract -- this would be noted on offer, prior to placement. For additional information on these policies, please see our website.
.
Questions about dogs are generally not answered here due to lack of staffing.
Additional information and photos will be posted here as time permits
