Meet Tiny Tony - Fostered in Omaha

Meet Tony! He was born January 24, 2024 and is a super smart, very sweet, gorgeous Chocolate Beagle. At only about 25lbs, Foster Mom has nicknamed him Tiny Tony. Tony came to rescue when he was about 6 months old and when he arrived, it was pretty clear that he was not cared for or socialized with people much - he was very nervous in the beginning. New noises, new people, new smells - he was unsure of it all.

With the help of his 2 foster siblings, he has learned how to be a dog. What started out as a scared puppy has blossomed into a friendly, curious, happy little dog. Tony has a lot of energy and loves to play with his foster siblings, run around the yard, and chew on his dog chews. When play time is over, he settles nicely and loves to be close to his siblings or his human, usually choosing one to snuggle with on the couch.

Tony knows that outside is where he goes potty but he has a dog door in his foster home, so may not understand how to let someone know when he needs to go out. Foster mom knows his tells and takes him out when the dog door is not available. H

He loves to explore the backyard, determined to sniff every inch of it. Tony does not bark much, but with the heart of a hunter, he will let you know when there's a critter in or around his yard. For this reason, Tony needs a yard with a very secure fence and human supervision. He likes to go on walks (solo or with the pack, he's good with both) and does well on the leash but he does not yet realize that he can go potty while on leash. Car rides are also enjoyable for him, he is a total road dog and does not seem to be nervous in the car.

The kennel is not his favorite place yet, he has a little bit of separation anxiety. He practices kennel time every day and is learning that it is not a bad place to be. He doesn't typically go in willingly, snax are a must, and he may make a fuss for a short time. Mealtime is an exciting time and being fed in his kennel has helped show him that good things happen in there.

Tony has been in his foster home for a couple months now. He is a different dog now than when we met on August 16th. He has done very well here with 2 dogs to keep him busy but does still get a little nervous. At times, the human simply walking thru the house puts him on edge and he still isn't a fan of loud, sudden noises or quick movement.

Tony would do best in a quiet home with a secure yard, calm humans who have experience with a young active pup, and at least one confident dog to play with. Tony does not do well with small children, older children may be a little more his speed. His foster siblings are Basset Hounds who are both only a little bit bigger than he is. He has played well with dogs smaller than he is, he has not yet played with the big dogs but would likely do well. He has had a few brief interactions with cats and has minded his manners well with them.

Tiny Tony wants to be loved and to know that he's safe, he deserves both. He may require just a little extra time to show you his true personality. He is extremely loved (and maybe a little spoiled) in his foster home, his furever family will be so lucky to have him.
