Meet Tigris

These 3 Egyptian river sisters were abandoned at a house. When a new family moved in, it was decided that they deserved a better home than having to live outside.

Their guesstimated birthday is in Feb. 2020. At intake, Tigris was scared to be in a strange place with new people, and this showed as barking / growling. After being given an hour to settle, she allowed herself to be toweled off and crated. It took her a bit at her new foster to be willing to leave the van, but the next morning was seeking out attention, particularly from the man of the house.

At intake in March, Tigris' sisters were able to be spayed immediately. Tigris' mental state was still timid so she was given more time to settle into the foster home. By late March it was determined she was pregnant and she delivered her pups April 11th (see Baishan, Citali, Saqui, Sayen, Shikoba, and Tatanka),

When her pups were about 3 weeks old, 4 cattle dog mix puppies were rescued from tossing into the trash (literally) and needed a nursing mama. Tigris was willing to oblige and they are now ready for God to send their forever families, too (see Alfred, Batman, Flamebird, and Nightwing). What a mama dog!

At last it was time for Tigris to be spayed and ready for her new family. She is timid in new situations and a bit of a drama queen when scared.

Tigris is a sweet, submissive girl with a strong desire to be where her people are. If not supervised, she should be crated (at least a 42" crate so she can sprawl) in order to keep her from chewing unauthorized items. She's house-trained and leash-savvy. She's tolerant of strangers, but not yet interested in interacting with them on forays into public. At home she will bark to alert and will charge strangers getting out of their car. She tolerates strangers in the home once the initial introduction (with treats tossed on the floor and no eye-contact) has been made.

Tigris is house-trained, good on leash - with minimal pulling - and enjoys car rides. She is devoted and protective of her people. A home that doesn't have many guests would be best for our Tiger. A family that will advocate for her in public - discouraging strangers from approaching her - will allow her to establish confidence in her handlers.

**********

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies.

Not all foster dogs are available for viewing during public events at Tractor Supply (360 Blowing Rock Blvd) in Lenoir, NC. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
