Meet Thurston!

Thurston entered the Downey Shelter in sad condition - a neglected little stray with irritated skin, overgrown nails, and fleas. After no one came to claim him, we made Thurston a Frosted Face. He is estimated to be 10 years old and weighs 12 lbs.

While Thurston's body is healing, his heart is still catching up. He is nervous about being touched - the sign of a past that likely lacked the love every dog deserves.

It's possible Thurston spent much of his life as a backyard dog, rarely handled, socialized, or treated as part of a family.

Thurston is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling to decompress and receive much-needed TLC in the comfort of a home. He enjoys the company of the five other dogs in the home, especially a Frosted Face that Thurston has decided is a good snuggly buddy. How sweet is that?

Thurston has made a lot of great progress in the short time he's been here.

I can now bathe him, put a belly band on, and rub his head/belly if he's wrapped in a blanket. He's still a bit fearful of humans, but with time and love, I'm sure he'll be a snuggly little guy.

Thurston is a total cutie with a lot of great qualities like:

No separation anxiety
Sleeps through the night
Gets along with other dogs
Takes treats gently
Low maintenance-he's happy to sniff, do his business and go back inside
Sleeps most of the day
Great in the car
Does a little happy dance at dinner time"

We are looking for a very special forever home for Thurston - one filled with patience, compassion, and a willingness to move at his pace. He may need extra time to come out of his shell, but he's worth every moment.
