Theodore's Story

1 year old
56 lbs
Male neutered

Meet Theodore, the year old golden boy with a heart of gold! “Theo” as his foster family calls him, is really still just a puppy, trying to learn to fit in to a world that had been so cruel. In rural Mississippi, poor little Theo was dumped and left to fend for himself, for a whole month, before rescuers were able to round him up and bring him to safety. So Theo arrived in Illinois on the rescue transport from Mississippi scared, timid and unsure of what the world had in store for him next. Lucky for Theo and the other dogs on the trip, loving foster homes were
what awaited! How quickly Theo blossomed into the dog he is today! He’s not timid at all, but a sweet, gentle, affectionate, yet smart and playful, wonderful dog! Theodore’s greatest quality is how loving and friendly he is. Every person he meets is a new best friend, every dog he meets is a new playmate.
He’s done great playing with children, and loves the foster home’s resident shepherd, as well as his foster brother Fisher, arriving on the same transport together. Theo has lot’s of puppy energy to play with his canine and human friends outside, he loves play wrestling with the other dogs, or playing fetch with a squeaky ball! Theo is great at settling down in the house, becoming a chill cuddle buddy on the couch, or gently chewing on a favorite chew toy, relaxing on his dog bed. Theo is great with his foster brothers and would make an excellent addition to a family with dogs, confident canine companionship has helped him adjust quickly to his new life. He could also be an only dog, if your ready for a 24/7 365 unconditional love velcro dog! Theo’s abandonment issues from the past have fostered not fear and timidness but a deep yearning for human connection and love. Theo will give you a hug like he wants to hold on forever, and never let go! Theodore’s intelligence has quickly blossomed as well at his foster home.
With 3 dogs in the home, obedience training is high priority, and Theo has flourished! Theo was potty trained in 6 days, which includes him learning to ring bells on the door to go outside. He has learned Sit, Stay, Place, Drop It, and Heel. He is working on other commands such as Leave It and Down. Theo is doing well on leash, but working on better leash manners. He has a very high prey drive, he’ll chase birds and furry critters, including cats, so he may pull on the leash if his prey drive kicks in. Theo is so happy to see friends both human and canine, he is still working on proper greeting manners.
Overall Theodore is really the most well behaved and obedient dog the foster home has seen, after just a few weeks of training! He just wants to make his people happy and be a good boy all the time! He has even been perfect when learning to free roam while his people are gone, now up to 3-4 hours. He patiently waits with his foster brothers for his humans to return.
Theodore loves being near his people, he may be best suited to a family that is around home a lot, and involves their dog/dogs in day to day activities. Theo kennels up well in the morning or during the day with a tasty treat! He’s been getting a potty break at 4-5 hours and is officially crate trained! At night he is calm and perfectly well behaved, on his dog bed, with a chew toy, near his people. If his crate is in the bedroom, he may sleep in it with
the door open, or his dog bed. When your alarm goes off in the morning, he wants to be able to give you sweet puppy kisses to wake up! Who wouldn’t want that!!
Theo is ready to find his forever home!

So if Theodore, the golden boy with a heart of gold, sounds like the dog you need in your life, don’t hesitate to contact Rescued Rascals at
rescuedrascalsil.org and submit an adoption application!
