Meet Tetsu

Hi, my name is Tetsu! Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Intelligent, playful, stubborn (like an akita or a husky), and very active!
-Can Live with Kids: No, I will need an adult-only home due to my handling sensitivities
-Can Live with Cats: No, I would likely be "too much" for cats
-Can Live with Dogs: No, I would likely enjoy being the only dog in the home. Further testing pending.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thank you, I need more space. My ideal home would have a large fenced yard!
-Potty Trained: As a recently neutered male, I still like to mark and have peed on things inside the shelter. This may improve with time.
-Bite History: None
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, 1-3 private lessons depending on adopter experience
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No

-Additional Information: As an akita mix, Tetsu has some needs that his future adopters will need to meet. First and foremost, his new person/family will need to be experienced with high energy dogs (ideally akita and/or husky experienced) and able to read their body language. He can be a bit sensitive to handling, especially with strangers, but does enjoy attention/affection once he's gotten to know you - this is just going to take some time. We think this big guy will develop a strong bond with his person once he's had time to settle in to his new home.

Tetsu is very intelligent and very high energy - he will need LOTS of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy. This means Tetsu cannot be left alone for long periods of time (especially while you're still getting to know him!) because he will become easily bored and potentially destructive. Tetsu would likely not do well at dog parks or other busy places (ie. restaurants, breweries, etc.) because he becomes easily overstimulated. Tetsu LOVES playing fetch and would do best in a home with a big fenced yard where he can get out his zoomies. If you'd like to meet Tetsu, the first step is filling out an adoption application. Staff will then review applications to ensure it's a good match before scheduling an introduction.
