Meet Tess

Meet Tess, a beautiful 3 y.o. purebred black female lab. She was surrendered to Brookline by her owners because they were unable to give her the exercise and attention they felt she needed.

We fell in love with Tess on day one of having her in our home. She is friendly, sweet, and silly. Tess loves people of all ages and has a zest for life. She is just absolutely lovely to be around. Her tail is always wagging, she is excited to go anywhere whether it be on a walk or for a car ride. She is up for any activity which is a good thing because she has some excess pounds that she needs to lose to get to a nice healthy weight for her. With lots of daily exercise and activity and eating smaller amounts of a lean food, she lost seven plus pounds in about six weeks. Continuing to help Tess on her weight loss journey will be essential in her furever home.

Not only does Tess love people, but she loves dogs and gets along with cats too. She has two foster fur brothers (1 and 7y) and absolutely adores them. They play together all the time. They chase each other and run around in the yard and in the house, play tug and ball, and wrestle. Tess did live with a cat in her previous home, but she did not have one in foster care. On many occasions, in her previous home Tess was seen napping with the cat in her crate.

In addition to continuing to work on helping Tess lose weight, she will need to continue to work on her training especially learning self-control in her furever home. Tess can be a bit pushy to get out of doors and so continued training on teaching her how to SIT and WAIT at doors will be needed along with working on her leash manners as she is a big girl and she can pull on that leash. She is a smart girl who is easy to please and is treat-motivated so she learns relatively quickly but needs consistent practice and reminders.

Tess is easy-going and would fit into most home situations. We would love to see her go to a loving home with a fence, a fur sibling, someone home more than not, and easy access to water so she can swim and play, but these are not requirements for her placement. We suspect that she is a water dog, but because of the cold we have not been able to test our theory, but any time we pass any body of water she perks up and gets all excited.

If you are an active family, looking for a friendly, affectionate, and playful companion, Tess may be the girl for you!
