I have received very few inquiries in poor Tater Tot; seemingly, because he only has three legs. But Tater Tot is a very special boy and we hope that you will read his story! Tater Tot ended up at the Moreno Valley Shelter where no one came looking for him. He was going to be euthanized, due to his injury, and they needed a rescue to step up to take on the care and cost. Tater Tot had an old dislocated elbow injury, whereby our orthopedic surgeon stated that he would not have a good prognosis for repair, therefore, Tater Tot had to have an amputation. But that does not stop Tater Tot! And we KNOW that that is not a reason why sweet Tater cannot find a loving and forever home!

Tater Tot is a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix that weighs about 11 lbs. and is age two. His personality is basically sweet and quiet, a cuddle bug and affectionate, and he has a gentle soul. He is also a very happy boy! (But he always looks very serious in photos, but please do not let that fool you!) He is gentle and quiet, while being happy and content. I really like him in that he also has a bit of an independent side, whereby he does not always have to be glued to me and he can go up on the human bed and chill on there, or on one of the pet beds on the porch to sun himself. However, he also loves to be by my side and follow me too, wagging his tail always! He gets along with other dogs, and enjoys being part of the pack. He loves cuddling on the same pet bed with the other dogs; he gets a sense of contentment being near them. Tater Tot seems to prefer a calmer environment, though he does have a bit of a playful side and also enjoys toys.

Tater Tot has good mobility, and being a small dog, having only three legs is not an issue (you should see him leap up onto the human bed!). His surgery site is all healed; however, his hair is still growing back in. He is quite potty-trained (however potty reinforcement is needed in any new environment) and also crate-trained but he prefers if his little sleeping crate is near me. He loves his little rawhide stick as a bedtime snack and happily runs into his little crate to get it! (A crate is good as a transition tool to a new place, but Tater Tot is totally trusted outside of the crate as well.) Tater Tot also knows how to navigate the doggie door.

You can tell that Tater Tot wants to be someone’s special boy; he is a sensitive dog who longs for a special bond with his human, but he also gets a great sense of contentment being symbiotic with the other dogs. We hope to find someone who has a kind heart and will not mind that Tater Tot is not “perfect.” We think his personality is stellar! He is a joy for this rescuer to have around and he has never been a problem. (NOTE: All adopted dogs must be primarily indoor dogs, with outdoor access for play, potty - No dog can be excluded or left primarily to an outdoor area.) I tend to feel that a home that has a free access yard, even if small, and a home that has an appropriate doggie companion, to be a good fit for Tater Tot, but I aim to keep an open mind for the right home! So if you are looking for a gentle soul to be your constant companion, or a companion to your already existing dog, Tater Tot may be your guy! Please contact me to discuss Tater Tot further! To me, he is a keeper; he is truly one of my favs! Who will open their heart to Tater Tot? ?

Tater Tot is neutered, fully vaccinated (including rabies), Front-lined, dewormed, and micro-chipped.
