Tater Pit Bull Terrier Mix Saginaw, MI

Oh man, sit down, grab some tissues and a coffee and let me tell you a story about a dog named Tater! Because this boy may be young, but he has quite a story!

Tater was initially posted as a “rescued abused dog” and the person was giving him away. When questioned the post disappeared and so did Tater…… or so we thought!

That very evening a kind lady reached out to us begging for help! Somehow she got her hands on Tater and good thing she did! She quickly realized this boys story was not adding up and this pup needed help.

We went and met Tater, and were met with a dog who was extremely malnourished, ribs and hips and head bones protruding through his skin. His back was arched in an extreme manner making it apparent (as if the urine and fecal stains all over his beautiful white legs, butt, stomach, and face didn’t speak volumes!) he was kept in a TINY cage, in his own waste. His paw pads like pancakes, feet completely flat. This poor dog had obviously been neglected the majority of his young life.

We got him into rescue, starting a refeed program immediately and realized he didn’t even understand how to be a dog. Had no idea what toys were or how to play with them. He was nipping us in excitement constantly unable to contain his joy and happiness to be safe.

He has come a LONG way! Growing into a beautiful, strong good boy with a heart of gold! He loves almost everyone he meets! He does chase cats but if your cat will tell him off he does usually take a correction well.

He absolutely has to go to a home with a well balanced dog who will continue to teach him manners and how to be a dog. He THRIVES with another dog and we will not adopt him out as an only pet. He deserves a buddy!

We believe he would do well with kids, but do HIGHLY recommend he go to a home without small children. You see, he’s young and jumpy and will still mouth in excitement. We don’t want to set him up for failure so a home with kids over 10 years old who can understand his boundaries and how to effectively redirect him is a must!

And then training. He lived in a crate. He is still working on potty training. He’s proving quite stubborn and our foster works a lot. So he really needs someone who is able to be home, and dedicate the time to training. He’s super smart, and super eager to please, so training so be easy once you have a routine!

Tater needs a home where order, routine, and rules are a priority. He needs someone dedicated to consistent and constant training. He will THRIVE with consistency! He just needs someone to give him a chance! One he didn’t have until he came into rescue!

I know it sounded like a lot of negatives, but Tater is also an A++++ cuddle bug and loves to curl up in bed with a bone and just lay against you. He craves attention and support and reassurance that’s he’s the bestest boy ever.
