Adopt-a-BullBreed: Pit Bull Terrier Gender: Female Estimated Date of Birth: September 16, 2013 Size: 62 lbs Location: Stone Mountain, GA
Sylvia was hit by a car and brought to an emergency clinic and the clinic put in a plea to us. Poor Sylvia took a bit of a beating. She had lots of bruises and scrapes, some mild head trauma, and some bruising on her lungs. Luckily, the x-rays from the ER showed she did not have any major fractures. She is heartworm negative and we were able to take Sylvia into our program on 9/15/2018.
In addition to being pretty banged up, Sylvia was absolutely terrified, skittish, and acted like she has never been inside a building before. For the first few days in foster-care, Sylvia would not eat, but she slowly started to eat scrambled eggs when hand fed to her. She is learning what it is like to live in a home and can be skittish around basic things like doors, especially when closed too fast. Her favorite place of all time is the bed or the couch and she will happily binge watch an entire series on Netflix if you let her!
Sylvia lights up when she is around other dogs. She is still learning appropriate doggie interactions, but she gets along great with her foster siblings, from the 6lb Chihuahua to the 80lb Pit Bull. She would do okay in a home with cats as well. The resident cats in her foster home are rude and make it very clear they are not interested in friendship and she is actually quite scared of them. She would likely be great in a home with independent cats that don't pay her any mind or at even cats that are friendly with her.
Sadly, Sylvia's prior experiences with humans must have been terrible as it takes her a while to warm up to new people, especially males, but it just makes it all the more special when you do earn her affection. Sudden movements can make her nervous so she would do best in a home without children. She is house trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on a leash. This laid back lady would even do fine in a home without a fence because a quick walk outside to do her business is perfect for her as she really just wants to settle back into her spot on the couch. Sylvia has come such a long way and she would love a forever family of her very own!
