Meet Sweet Potato

Have you heard about the sweetest potato in the patch? Our little Sweet Potato (affectionally called “Tato”) is about 4 months old and weighs 30 pounds. This adorable Lab/Pit mix is potty trained, crate trained (will often put herself to bed in it when she’s had enough), loves other dogs, and has been a total joy (translation: goofball) to live with, according to her foster mom.

Besides her ears, Tato’s most endearing qualities are stealing socks and shoes, watching birds eat then trying chase them when they fly away, playing fetch with herself ,and showing off her puppy push-ups. She also loves ear scratches, belly rubs and all things food. But don’t try to sneak into the kitchen without her…you can be quiet as a mouse and still, you’ll find her sitting behind you hoping to snag a snacky!

Tato’s foster mom has been working on training to help build a strong foundation for this little spud. Her repertoire of learned behaviors includes GO POTTY, INSIDE, KENNEL, SIT, DOWN, TOUCH, LET’S GO, and LEAVE IT. Most puppies are not this well versed in socialization and training, what a benefit to her future family!

Tato is a bit shy when meeting new people and larger dogs but given some time, she warms up and then her butt wiggles and her tail wags.  She sometimes will freeze up if she sees something she’s unsure of (such as a fast moving car or unpredictable little kids); her canine foster sibling has been working hard to teach her the world isn’t so scary.  Because of this, Tato really wants a home with another dog who will help her gain confidence and provide companionship.

Patient humans who will let Tato sprout at her own pace, a playful and confident resident dog, and a fenced yard are all on Tato’s wish list so she can continue to grow into the Sweet Potato we all know she is! Contact us for an opportunity to meet Tato!
