We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs
REQUIRED: Companion dog in home and securely fenced yard as she will not walk on leash.

Sweet Loretta is an 8-year-old, 20 lb. female Bichon who was released to us following a lifetime
of caged breeding in an Ohio puppy mill. Because of her history, we will require her home to
have a physically fenced yard and at least one other well-adjusted dog to learn from. She does
well with all the other dogs in her foster home, and there are many in a variety of breeds and
sizes. She has even tried to initiate playing with a few of them, but most of her housemates are
seniors and no longer interested in playing. There are no cats in her foster home, so we don’t
know how she would be with cats. However, her overall personality is quite mellow.
She is still learning to trust humans and should be considered a flight risk. You need to corner
her or catch her “off-guard” to pick her up, but when you do, she is not aggressive and will
allow holding and petting for a bit before indicating she wants down. She sleeps tucked close
alongside her foster dad sharing the bed with several other dogs and stays put until morning.
Sweet Loretta gets very excited at mealtime, usually darting back and forth in the kitchen with a
wagging tail and a happy little bark. The only other time we hear that sweet bark is when she is
inviting another dog to play. Otherwise, she is a very quiet girl.
Please note: Sweet Loretta is NOT HOUSEBROKEN AT ALL! This is something you may or may
not be able to accomplish with her due to living 24/7 for 8 years inside a cage with no other
place to go to the bathroom. Her foster mom has tried taking her outside, but she just freezes
in place like a statue. Of course, it doesn’t help that she arrived in winter with 2 feet of snow on
the ground and below freezing temps. Once Spring arrives things may improve, but for now
we’ve had zero success getting her to potty outside. Dogs like Sweet Loretta should NOT be
punished for this! It’s not her fault. We want to find her a home where she can be comfortably
and lovingly accommodated despite her accidents inside. If you can’t deal with this, please
don’t apply to adopt her.
Another note: Sweet Loretta does NOT tolerate being crated. It puts her in panic mode. She will
bark incessantly and try her best to claw her way out. We realize this makes housebreaking
more of a challenge, but not surprising after 8 years of total confinement.
She will have her dental and spay surgery on February 28 th , and then she will be ready for
adoption. Although we have disclosed some issues that make placement somewhat
challenging, we believe there is someone special out there willing to help her learn how her life
SHOULD be and how wonderful it is to love and be loved.

All our dogs have been spayed/neutered; treated for worms; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 mths or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchip; and examined by veterinarian and given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed.
