VISIT LEIASHOPE.ORG FOR OUR ADOPTION PROCESS.
Requirements:
Vetting requirements (see our website)
Preference:
Children/playful smaller dog
Swan was born in our care on March 16. Her mother is a Shih-tzu and her father is said to be a miniature poodle. We do not guarantee these pups are Shi-poos. Swan is the smallest of the pups and at the age of 9 weeks weighed 4 lbs. We do not know her adult size. Her mom is 12 lbs.
Swan has short stubby legs like a shih tzu and she is the more personable one of the pups. She would rather be cuddled than learn activities. Swan has gone through the Puppy Culture program (google this) and has been socialized and exposed to new experiences almost daily since 2 weeks old. Swan is the expert on manding and asking for attention. Manding is giving puppies a voice (think of deaf people learning sign language) and is used to ask for things that she wants. For Swan, she is mostly asking for treats and attention. Swan likes to nibble ears and skin when being held and foster mom has been working on this. Swan has done some recreational scent work and is pretty good. Foster mom will be working on lose leash walking, kennel training and getting her used to grooming, as time permits, before heading to her home.
Swan currently eats a raw diet from BJ's Raw. An adopter may switch her to dry kibble, but we do encourage adopters to look into the benefits of raw.
Swan's adoption fee is $500. She is microchipped and received the age appropriate vaccines (subsequent vaccines are at the adopter's expense). She is not spayed and a spay contract is required. The spay is covered by Leia's Hope if using our vet. Visit leiashope.org for our process.
WE DO ADOPT OUT OF THE AREA, HOWEVER, WE DO NOT SHIP NOR ARRANGE TRANSPORTS. YOU WILL HAVE TO COME TO DECATUR, IL TO MEET THE DOG. IF FLYING, DOGS MUST FLY IN THE CABIN AND THE EXPENSE OF THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE IS ON THE ADOPTER.
THE APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BEFORE WE CAN START THE PROCESS.
IT CAN TAKE AT LEAST 7 DAYS TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION SOMETIMES LONGER DEPENDING ON VOLUNTEER AVAILABILITY AND NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED SO PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE ARE VOLUNTEERS WITH FAMILIES AND FULL TIME JOBS AND DOGS OF OUR OWN TO CARE FOR.
IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 9 MONTHS): YOU MUST HAVE A FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE OR SOMEONE HOME ALL DAY. PUPPIES NEED TO BE LET OUT TO POTTY OFTEN, THEY NEED SOCIALIZATION AND BONDING AND NEED TRAINING (HOUSETRAINING AND BEHAVIORAL TRAINING). IF YOU WORK LONG HOURS, HAVE A BUSY SOCIAL SCHEDULE OR NOT FINANCIALLY SECURE THEN A PUPPY IS NOT FOR YOU.
