Meet Sugarbear

ISO a patient, kind, soft handed, understanding and forgiving experienced adopter for the most unique and special boy.

Sugarbear, AKA Sugarbutt, Sugarybooty, Sugar Booboo, Sugar Bewwww (said in super high pitched voice) is such a very special boy.

This hunky, handsome guy was rescued from a hoarding situation in Kentucky along with over 30 other dogs who all made their way to various rescues and then to loving furrever homes.

Sugar is kind of one of the unfortunate ones. He will most likely be one of the last ones (if he’s even lucky enough) to find a home.

You see, Sugarbutt was born blind, crammed in with other dogs in an outside enclosure his first year or two of life with minimal human contact and that took its toll on him.

Sugar is scared of the world around him. It’s been vastly changing and he has limited ways to observe the new and intimidating things surrounding him.

He just doesn’t know how to keep himself safe.

What I do know about Sugar is a few things:

Sugarbutt needs a quiet home with no children or other pets.

Sugar needs a home with a person who is very familiar with dog behavior and body language and have the experience to read him and know when he is upset or feeling anxious and the ability and knowledge of how to respond accordingly. (Ie. back away and give him space, how to safely control the situation, how to handle a dog who is fearful)

He needs an owner who is savvy with dogs and willing to commit to some hard work.

Sugar boo boo needs the right environment and person to make the right impact on his life.

Sugarbutt will be tough to adjust.

It will probably always be a good idea to keep him kenneled at night.

He will not do well with other dogs or cats around and most likely will never be able to live with them.

Sugar will need to be 1000% kept away from children and younger teenagers.

If you’ve made it this far you get the good stuff…

Sugar will be the most loyal dog you’ll ever find.

He will teach you brand new lessons on resilience and overcoming obstacles.

He will show you joy and happiness every time he hears your voice.

You will learn how just the simplest things can make the biggest difference and that even when you are down on yourself, just your voice alone means the world to at least that one silly little dog.

He steals everything. Like everything. Blankets, towels, pillows, toys, treats, anything he can…

He has a all time favorite possession that traveled all the way up from Kentucky with him, his red bucket named “Bucky” that he takes everywhere with him except when he’s out thieving around.

His fur feels like silk and his kisses are sweeter than candy.

Every day he is finding new ways to adjust and be happy.

He has just as much love to offer as any other dog out there.

Now we know that we are looking for a diamond in the rough but were looking and do believe somewhere out there is the right person. If I’m crazy enough to love him there’s got to be at least one more out there that will.

If you have read to this point, I appreciate that you have given this darling bony this much of your time. I know that everyone wont be the right fit. And that’s ok, were all different and our own unique needs.

But what I ask of you is that even if he is not the right fit for you, maybe you know someone who is and you can help make that connection. Maybe that long lost friend watching the post roll by on Facebook or Twitter is that right fit. Maybe Sugarbutts next owner is somewhere in your circle of friends or contacts.

I’m asking even if you can’t take in a special needs dog to please help give Sugar a chance to make it out of the shelter but sharing his story. Share this link with anyone that you can and ask them to please share it too.

We will search high and low and exhaust all resources we can to find this boy an escape. We are always here to offer our adopters continued support for the life of the pet and do anything we need to to make the transition for you and your new pet the smoothest we can.

Please help us get Sugarbear a home!
