Meet Sugar Bear

Sugar Bear is an approximately 8 year old 15 pound beautiful girl who came to us by way of a local SPCA after she and 8 other dogs were confiscated from a home in Schuylkill County, PA. All of the dogs were living in horrible conditions in crates inside of a home, being used for breeding. They were all covered in fleas, suffering from severe hair loss, and many other issues. It has taken some TLC and surgery for a spay, multiple mammary masses (benign) and dental cleaning to get her healthy but she is now doing very well.

Due to her lack of socialization she is a bit timid when first meeting somebody new and needs some time and space to warm up, sometimes she does this very quickly and other times she needs a few days/meetings, then can’t get enough cuddles, kisses and love. She is definitely very smart and a very quick leaner, and is already housebroken and pretty well behaved on a leash. Sugar Bear has the energy of a dog half her age and loves walks and running around the yard.

Since being with us, she has lived in a home with many dogs of all sizes but quickly decided that she does not really care for dogs larger than her. Having been a breeder dog for her life, she seems to hoard all of the stuffed dog toys in the house and protect them and treat them as if they are her babies. She will whimper over them and also does not like if other dogs come near her “babies” and will charge at other dogs to protect them. We are hoping that she will outgrow this now that she is spayed however this is important to be aware of initially if there is another dog in your home. When not protecting her toys she has been fine with other small dogs in the house and on walks and we believe that another small mellow dog in the home would be beneficial to her since she finds comfort in being around them.
We also feel that because of her timid nature, she should be in a home with low activity level (not a lot of visitors).

Overall Sugar Bear is a very sweet and incredibly well behaved dog for the circumstances that she has come out of. She has lots of love to give and is ready to find her furever home and live the life that she deserves.
