Meet Sugar

Sugar is a 1 yr old, 38 lb, red/cream/black MIXED breed superstar! She is as sweet as her name! She was surrendered by her former owner for being too energetic and having no backyard for Sugar to burn off energy. The owner realized Sugar needed a better suited home with a fenced backyard. Her foster Mom in KS reports Sugar is dog friendly and did well off leash on walks in the pasture. Sugar had good recall, and sticks close to her foster Mom. Sugar gives good eye contact with people, and loves to be given attention. Sugar enjoyed playing with her dog friends in the fenced backyard, racing each other and "play wrestling." Sugar wasn't cat tested in KS, so ask a Town and Country volunteer to cat test Sugar if you want. Some things her foster Mom tried working with Sugar was walking better on a leash, some training still needs done as Sugar will pull you along as you walk her on a leash. Sugar is very treat motivated, so if you "catch her being good," slip her a treat to enforce that good behavior. Her foster Mom noticed Sugar already knew the sit command, so she had Sugar sit calmly by the backdoor before letting her into the backyard to play. Make plans to meet Sugar in person soon!

The adoption fee is $350 and covers age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.

Applications are typically worked in time stamp order based on date/time of submission. If you have other dogs in your home, they must all meet the potential adoptee. It may save you a trip to bring them with you when you visit, if you are certain you want to adopt a new family member.

*****We are currently operating by appointment only during the social distancing stage of quarantine. If you want to meet this pet, or are interested in adopting, please submit an inquiry or email to Someone from the rescue will contact you and/or your family and determine, on a broad level, whether you might be a fit for the animal. If so, they will provide instructions for completing the application. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted to set up a time to meet at the shelter or the foster home. The introduction between you and the pet will be supervised by one of the dog counselors or the foster. If all goes well, you can adopt during the same visit.
