Meet Stinky -- Courtesy Post

Meet Stinky! This little guy is loving, yet feisty and sensitive. He loves to play with his humans and just soaks up the praise. He will bark when visitors come over, as poms are supposed to do, but he is happy to say hello to new people pretty much right away.

Now, we know what you're thinking: Wow, this dog is adorable, I must have him! Right? But please, **read the rest of this bio carefully.** Stinky has a lot going on behaviorally and will need an experienced adopter with no kids. He is likely to do best in a home where he would be an only pet. A fenced yard may be helpful.

Stinky is believed to be a purebred pomeranian. These little dogs descended from larger northern dogs who were expected to help with guarding the property, herding farm animals, and even pulling sleds. So Stinky's adopter should be prepared for some husky-like attitude.

In particular, Stinky may resist being coerced into doing things he does not want to do or going places he does not want to go. If your training style involves planting your feet and forcing a dog to give in to your will, Stinky is not the dog for you. However, if you are keen to be challenged in how to get an "independent thinker" to actually *want* to do what you want him to do, then Stinky may be the dog for you.

Stinky guards food and cozy hiding places. He lives with two other dogs, one male and one female, and although he has been overall good with the female dog, he has a history of conflict with the male and barks at other dogs seen outside.

Stinky has bitten people and other dogs and the bites to humans -- in the context of resource guarding, resisting when being pressured to do something he does not want to do (like go outside to go potty), or having a conflict with the other dog -- have broken the skin.

This handsome fluffball has not lived with cats. He does bark at squirrels and rabbits.

Stinky weighs about 25 lbs and is 8 years old. He is crate trained and mostly housetrained. He is neutered and will be brought up to date on vaccinations prior to adoption.

He has a seizure disorder but the vet did not believe he needed medication for this because the seizures are infrequent. Stinky has some anxiety and is afraid of some things, such as beeping noises.

Stinky is losing his home because his owners now have a tiny child. Despite the careful management of the adults, Stinky and the other male dog are creating an unsafe environment for the kiddo. The various forms of aggression for Stinky have been present from early on but have increased over time, so very likely he will do better in a quieter home with no other dogs or kids. Getting him a thorough exam and addressing any potential discomfort he may be experiencing as a "young senior" may also help. But do not judge Stinky's current family and assume that they must be doing something wrong. This little guy is going to be tricky, so his adopter needs to be prepared for that and should already have a trainer ready to work with them one-on-one with Stinky.
