Meet Sterling

Sterling is a 1.5-year-old spayed female German shepherd mixed with husky and malamute. She was found as a stray, starved to only 35 pounds and full of milk but without any puppies. Upon vet examination, she was diagnosed with heartworm, multiple parasites, lymes disease, anaplasmosis, and a UTI on top of her starved figure.

Sterling is social, affectionate, and playful. She would enjoy another playful dog companion or a social lifestyle that includes doggie playtime. She does well meeting people and dogs. Given her puppy habits like mouthing, pulling, and jumping, she would likely do best with older children that can handle rough-housing style play. Cats are unknown.

Sterling’s personality is very true to her Alaskan breeds. She is smart enough to slip out of a basic harness, and when bored, she can occupy herself with finding something to chew on or digging a hole outside. She is crate-trained and does well in her crate at night and alone. Sterling is also house-trained and sleeps through the night. She walks well on a leash (and enjoys walks), but she will give you a strong pull on the leash if going after a nearby rabbit or squirrel.

What’s special about Sterling is that she doesn’t bark much, will go for car rides, takes treats very gently, and has done well with thunder and fireworks. She loves belly rubs, playtime, spending time in the yard and chewy treats. She knows basic commands including sitting for her food bowl and leash. She is seeking a home that can provide mental and physical activities for her such as a playful companion, daycare/park visits or training programs.

Now that Sterling has completed her medical treatments and gained weight (now 60 pounds), she is looking for an active and social home that will stimulate her curious mind and continue her training.
