My husband and I found a young dog (we named her Kona for now) in our neighborhood in October of 2022, not knowing the policy of turning the animal into the shelter prior, we took her to our vet whom our older dog goes to. She was not spayed, not microchipped and we assumed not vaccinated either. In our neighborhood, we have a lot of stray dogs, some of which are females that have had litters of puppies. We believe this female we are housing, is a pup to one of the females around the neighborhood.
She is a young, energetic, puppy, so the behaviors she is exhibiting are that of a puppy, which is too much for our older dog. This decision does not come lightly for us, we rescued our current dog from a beach many years ago, and we feel for this young one. We want to find her a loving home with a family that can dedicate the time, energy, and resources to give her what she needs. She is good with other dogs but would be better paired with a more dominant dog or a dog with similar energy levels. Our older dog Finn who is not very playful and her being a puppy creates a few challenges for him. We do not know how she is with cats or children.
She is up to date on all vaccinations and is spayed. Her training is still in progress. We occasionally have potty accidents.
