PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO --- Meet Squirt - a little Chihuahua mix who was so christened because he was the last puppy whelped and also the smallest puppy of the litter. Squirt was surrendered to a rescue by a family that had way more dogs than they could feed and provide veterinary care for. They did, however, have an abundance of love and, as a result, Squirt is very friendly, affectionate and is a real cuddler. Because he was used to being constantly surrounded by people and other animals, Squirt doesn't care for being alone and will vocalize his unhappiness. He does eventually quiet down but if you live in an apartment or condo, your neighbors might not have the patience to put up with Squirt's barking and crying until he settles down. We were told that Squirt was born around 10/16/18 and on his 1/16/19 arrival date at ACS he weighed 4.4 lbs. Because of his diminutive size, any children who live in or frequently visit the adopter's home must be old enough to properly handle him and dog-savvy enough to be able to tell when he doesn't want to be bothered. A lot of small-breed pups grow up to be not so fond of children solely because they were inadvertently mishandled by a child or children. Squirt is doing great on paper-training but his adopter will need to have plenty of time and patience to work with the little guy until he is reliably house-trained. If you just got new carpet or hardwood floors and/or have to be away from home for long hours at a time, an older puppy or adult dog that can 'hold it' longer would probably be a better fit for you. Squirt loves squeaky toys, puppy-appropriate chew toys, and giving lots of kisses. His favorite place to be is cuddled up on your lap but he's also a little bundle of energy. His adopter will need to be agile and equally energetic to keep up with Squirt - especially when he darts out an open door if you aren't watching him. The little 'squirt' thinks it's a game for you to chase him down! No doubt about it - Squirt will have his fair share of missteps as he grows up and you might find yourself occasionally asking yourself just what you got yourself into but all the 'downs' will definitely be worth all the 'ups' that Squirt will bring to your life! If you would like to give Squirt a loving and committed forever home, just submit an application thru our website (www.animalcaresociety.org). Once we have worked your application, we will contact you. Please don't come to the shelter expecting to meet Squirt unless we have called you to schedule a meet and greet. He hasn't had all his vaccinations yet and we want to do everything we can to make sure he stays healthy for his adopter. NOTE: Squirt won't be old enough to be neutered until March 2019 so, UNTIL HE IS NEUTERED, WE WILL ONLY CONSIDER APPLICATIONS FROM PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY KY. /// SQUIRT IS SPONSORED THRU JULY 2019 BY OUR FRIENDS AT OLDFATHER LAW FIRM.
