Spottie's Story
Spottie was found roaming the streets of NYC when she was found and brought to the New York Animal Care Centers, the city's municipal shelter. It was evident she recently had pup. It's sad but common that people dump the mom when the pups are born.

At the shelter, she watched many dogs get adopted but everyone passed her by because she was a senior. Soon her time was nearing an end when an amazing woman stepped up to save her life.

We know it will not be easy finding a forever home for her, but you never know.

SPOTTIE'S STATS:

Approximate age: Between 9 and 10 years
Approximate weight: 75-80 pounds

Breed (s)
Large mix with likely pitbull components. Originally classified as “boroughbred” through her New York roots. We do not have a genetic analysis, so her true breed combination is not available

Spayed or neutered?
No (due to age not mandatory)

Good with:
kids? No - but she can adapt as she has developed a good relationship with my son (age 10)
strangers? Yes - she loves to be rubbed and easily accepts petting from visitors
other dogs? No - she may have been traumatized in her early life as she was used (abused) as breeding stock prior to coming to the shelter
cats? Yes - she does tolerate my cats and on occasion plays a little bit, though still insecure about these weird creatures
On leash? Yes - she walks at an easy pace, no pulling or veering off sideways
Housetrained? Yes
Crate trained? Yes - she never soils her crate, but appreciates her crate as sanctuary

Spottie is an elderly lady dog who needs a dedicated human companion. We would love to see her with someone who is mostly by her side - at home, on rides and walks, and whatever else the new human enjoys to do. She is not a high energy dog, so would not be a good match for an avid hiker, but she does enjoy walks in the right weather.
Spottie suffers from separation anxiety, so the ideal adopter would be home based with lots of time in the same room with Spottie.

She loves to roll around on her backside, gets into some hilarious positions and enjoys belly-rubs. She is food motivated, so if you have a treat in your hand, you’ll be her beloved sidekick.
She is loving and gentle and will give sloppy kisses whenever you are willing to receive her love.

She does not care much for toys and will ignore them when offered.
