She has had 2 physicals and has the good fortune of being fostered by a trainer.. In that time, we have learned a lot about her!
Spot was surrendered to Pound on the Hill Animal Rescue in Alabama when her elder owner became unable to care for herself and the dog she had since a puppy. The assisted living home would not allow a dog of Spot's size. Her family searched for another situation or facility which would allow Spot without success. They contacted Pound on the Hill to secure Spot a safe and appropriate home.
The perfect home for Spot would be with someone who can spend many lazy days with her simply enjoying each other's company. Spot is no longer a puppy. As you can see, her beautiful frosty face is starting to show her age. We have had two complete physicals with blood work so we know Spot, though older, is still very healthy.
This laid back lass doesn't destroy anything other than, perhaps, a toy with a squeaker. She does not require crating... Spot knows where she's supposed to potty (outside!). Spot loves to cuddle on the couch or the bed next to you. If you are having a bad day and need to cuddle, Spot will gladly cuddle all day long!
Spot is not a fan of active dogs in her face wanting to play constantly... smaller dogs always moving about with their shrill commentary make her nervous.
Her best fit would be with a dog of similar size, nothing smaller. Possibly another mature laid back dog who likes to chill, as well.
Spot's perfect family would need to be understanding of her age and her desire to take time to relax. She sometimes gets spooked if she can't see you correctly, especially at night. Spot prefers to not be touched when she is off sleeping by herself, it startles her!. But when she goes to sleep in your arms, she loves the closeness. Though we do not have a medical confirmation of any issues, we believe Spot may not see as well as she could in years past. Waking her with your voice and giving her a moment to focus in the dark will be appreciated.
Spot would love a family with a very casual lifestyle where just kicking back on the couch and relaxing is the major event of the day..
Spot is 48 lbs with legs that go on forever. She is fast when she runs and plays... she does still enjoy a good romp with laid back friends.
She's looking for everyone's idea of retirement... a sunny spot on the back deck, a soft place to lay her head at naptime, good friends and good times. Spot enjoys a trip in the car to the local coffee place, or to Home depot to see what's going on with you. However, she would be just as happy to lay on the couch and eat snacks with you while watching a movie... what Spot wants more than anything... is to be with YOU.
If you think that you can offer her the perfect retirement home - no toddlers or loud children. No small dogs or cats and not too much action going on. We would love to hear from you!
Spot is spayed up to date on vaccines and preventatives . Spot is currently fostered in Massachusetts. For Spot, long distant transport is not available. We believe she earned the right to not have to go through another transport. For more information or to meet Spot please contact Pound on the Hill - Massachusetts Chapter via email at POHMassChapter@gmail.com. Thanks for your interest in adopting a "Pound" pup!
