Meet Spitzer

Spitzer is a very active approximately two year old male giant schnauzer who was found tied to the Lied Shelter in Las Vegas one morning when the staff came to work. No one claimed him but he had kennel cough and yechy eyes so rescue was contacted. He went to a vet hospital over the weekend and then came to Phoenix. He was groomed and two full plastic grocery bags of hair revealed a very thin but tall giant.

He has had his vet check up on Aug, 23 and we are awaiting results of that to see if there are any underlying problems. He does not like to eat but we are working on it. He is VERY active, athletic and agile. He likes to stand on top of things to survey his world. He has very little training and sit is about the only command he knows so far.

Other male dogs have not liked him at all when we had him out in public. So highly unlikely that he would be placed with any male dogs or small dogs as he seems to focus on small dogs. A female dog of equal size and energy would probably be best but another few days before we try that out.

At this point he is learning that he is not the alpha so no small kids at all. Would need to be middle school kids with an understanding of large dogs.

This dog would love a job or participating in some dog sports to learn to focus his energy and take advantage of his very athletically skilled body. Since he is at least 28 in at the shoulder but only 59 lb, we are working on getting more weight on him. He is not fond of eating though, so it is a challenge.

He won't be ready for placement until we get all of his blood tests back and get the all clear on his health.

Spiter's adoption fee is $350. If you are interested in this dog, please email us phxgsrescue@hotmail.com Applications in the immediate area are given preference and you need to be within a day's driving distance to come and pick up a dog. We do not ship our dogs. When you adopt a dog from us and for some reason it doesn't work, the dog be returned to VSGSR and a full refund is given with in the first thirty days. Any dog adopted from us at any time comes back to Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue if the adopter can not keep the dog. We are responsible for our dogs for their lifetime. And we hope our adopters are also. Each dog will have been neutered, had full panel blood tests done, been microchipped and up to date on all of his shots. We do prefer that you be within driving distance of Phoenix to adopt one of our dogs. If the adoption doesn't work out for some reason with in the first thirty days, the adoption fee is refunded upon return of the dog. Our contract states that during the life of the dog, should something happen that you can not keep any of our dogs, the dog must be returned to VSGSR. Should a family member wish to adopt the dog, they would be given first priority. We are responsible for our dogs for their entire life. If interested, please email us at phxgsrescue@hotmail.com for more information. Emailing is the best way to contact us as we are all volunteers
