Sorbin's Story

You probably remember meeting Sorbin, who is the son of Sasha. We originally listed them as a bonded pair. After watching and learning about them, assessing their interaction and behavior, the decision was made to separate them. Sasha is now in a new wonderful foster home and Sorbin is still with his same foster mom. Both of them are adjusting really well. They each had attachment behavior that has all but resolved. This is really common in parents/offspring and sib/sib placements where pups are not separated from their mom or each other. The pups don’t develop independence and can often have difficulty learning to socialize with their humans, develop separation anxiety etc.

Sorbin is deaf. That does not slow him down. He is an energetic and athletic 5-year-old. He is neutered, current on his vaccines, and is being fostered in Burien, WA.

There are a lot of options for signing with a deaf dog. Sorbin’s foster mom is using some general signs that are generally accepted when training any dog. Sit, down, stay, knock it off...you get it.

Sorbin continues to work on potty training and he’s about 90% there. The key is to crate when leaving, let him out immediately upon returning, and when home take him out every couple of hours to keep encouraging the positive behavior.

Sorbin crates easily but will bark and whine a bit before he settles. He does eat in his crate and is also crated when no human is in the home for now. Currently, he has free range of the house when a human is home and sleeps on the bed with his human and resident dog at night.

Everything is new to Sorbin so his behavior is fluid and changing every day. He's made great strides moving forward and learning to relax and just be a d-o-g. A dog that is cared for and a great companion.

Sorbin has had the privilege of going to work with his foster mom and he seems to enjoy that. He’s a good traveler in the car and once he’s told he can’t be in the front seat, he settles quickly and is happy to watch the world go by.

Sorbin is a sweet, affectionate, and loving adolescent who needs to maintain a routine and have a human who is consistent with meeting his needs. This will ensure he will take the final lap in becoming a cherished family member. He would be an excellent running, hiking, and camping buddy for an active/outdoor loving person or family.

After several weeks of crate rotation, Sorbin has been introduced to his foster mom’s resident dog, and they have been doing great together. There is an occasional snark when the resident dog corrects his sometimes-enthusiastic attitude. We believe that Sorbin would do well in an experienced multiple dog home with a female of similar age who is tolerant of other dogs.

If you’re ready to give Sorbin a loving home and are willing and able to continue with his training, then please fill out an application today – www.mustluvboxersrescue.com/adopt.
