SOPHIE German Shepherd Dog Mix Phoenix, AZ

If only Sophie could talk and tell us her story. It would probably be heartbreaking to hear, but very healing for her to share and get the weight off her shoulders. Sophie is a five-year-old, 80-pound German Shepherd mix. In late May she was turned in at the county shelter as a stray. She was scared, shaking, nervous, whale-eyed, and avoidant. She was adopted out, and only had her home for a week before being turned back in at county. Her owner stated that the apartment complex did not allow German Shepherds. They also said that Sophie was housebroken and allowed to roam both day and night. They shared that Sophie was good with people and other dogs. When Sophie arrived back at county, she was nervous, still shaking, and avoided the staff. The shelter environment is too much for some dogs, which is why Sophie seems to settle in a home but remains very nervous in a shelter. County hand delivered Sophie to Home Fur Good. Hopefully, being in a smaller shelter, she can receive more human attention and be given the best shot at finding a forever home. With a shy dog, showing them consistency and routine will help to build confidence. When the confidence grows, they will actively seek out human attention and interaction. The bond you can form with a previously timid dog is unbreakable. The adoption fee is $225 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm.
