Name: Somi
Age: Approximately 2 years old
Sex: Female (Spayed)
Weight: 46 lbs (21 kg)
Energy Level:
• Indoors (4/10): Calm and relaxed, content to lounge after exercise.
• Outdoors (8/10): Loves exploring and staying active.

Rescue Story

Somi was rescued from a rural farm in South Korea, where she was chained outside in inhumane conditions. Her environment involved illegal breeding for the meat trade, with surviving puppies raised in the same manner. Now safe and thriving, Somi is ready to find her forever home in the U.S. through a thorough adoption and vetting process. Once matched with a family, she will fly to the U.S. with a flight volunteer.

Personality & Behavior

Somi is a gentle, affectionate dog who adores people and loves exploring her surroundings.
• With People: She is friendly with both men and women, seeking affection from everyone she meets. She has also been gentle and affectionate toward children.
• With Dogs: She peacefully coexists with dogs of all sizes but prefers observing over active play after initial greetings.
• With Cats & Small Animals: Somi previously lived harmoniously with a cat in her foster home and has shown no prey drive toward small animals like rabbits or birds.

Training & Habits

Somi is intelligent, eager to learn, and adapts well to structured routines.
• Alone Time: Can be left alone for up to five hours without separation anxiety. However, food items should be securely stored, as she once chewed through a plastic bag containing food scraps.
• Car Travel: Travels calmly with no signs of motion sickness.
• Leash Skills: Walks well but may pull slightly at first due to excitement. She has an athletic side and can jump over 4-foot obstacles, so supervision in unsecured areas is necessary.
• Crate Training: Comfortable in a crate when needed but prefers not to stay in it for long periods.
• Grooming: Tolerates baths, drying, and nail trimming without issue.
• Vocalization: Naturally quiet, even in new or exciting situations.

Health & Diet
• Health Status: Excellent health. She gave birth to a litter before her rescue but has fully recovered.
• Preventative Care: Last heartworm prevention: Heartgard (January 20). Last flea/tick prevention: Bravecto (February 2).
• Diet: Enjoys PureVita and Zignature kibble but prefers home-cooked meals or treats over kibble alone. Favorite treats include meat-based snacks and dried fish.
• Favorite Activities: Loves long walks, running in open spaces, and exploring new environments. Prefers human affection and interactive activities over toys.

Daily Routine
• Weekdays: Somi starts her day with breakfast and a morning walk (8:00–9:00 AM), followed by a snack and a short walk at 1:00 PM. She enjoys another walk around 4:00–5:00 PM before dinner at 8:00 PM, ending her day with an evening walk at midnight.
• Weekends: Mealtimes remain the same, but she enjoys longer outings or more quality time with her foster.

Ideal Home

Somi thrives in a loving and active home that can provide structure, companionship, and outdoor adventures.
• Environment: A secure, fenced yard or frequent outdoor activities are essential. While she has never attempted to escape, her strong jumping ability requires supervision.
• Family Dynamics: She bonds deeply with her people and enjoys being near them. She would love a home where she receives plenty of affection and is allowed to sleep nearby at night.
• Activity Level: Somi would be a great match for an active family that enjoys outdoor adventures, hiking, or long walks.
• Training Commitment: She is smart and eager to learn, benefiting from continued leash training and recall work to develop into the best companion.
