Meet Snoopy

Snoopy is an energetic, fun loving, 10 year old Bichon, who came in last fall with bladder stones which have since been removed and he is now recovered from. He needs to stay on a specific prescription diet to make sure they don't return and he should also have yearly or bi yearly urine testing to make sure crystals are not forming. See below for more info on Snoopy as written by his foster dad who has been caring for him for the past few months.

"Snoopy is a bundle of joy. He loves company and gets along well with others, both humans and pets! He is playful with other dogs and has no problems around cats. I bring him around my neighbors house where they have a 3 dogs and 1 cat and Snoopy will play around. Snoopy makes a great companion for someone who can be around the house all day. He also enjoys long walks and being outdoors playing with the bigger dogs. Most say he doesn't seem 10 years old when they see he is so energetic out in public. He also has no problem with the snow.

He is a very smart dog and will get accustom to your schedule in due time. Every day at 7:15 am he will wake up and will scratch at the door and I'll know to walk him. He is essentially my new alarm clock. He expects to be fed around 8 am and will take about 2 hours to digest until he has to go outside and do number 2. I usually go to bed around 11-12am and he will sleep through the night without any noises or potty accidents. He also does not have to see you, as long as he knows you're in the area. He sleeps on the couch out in the living room and my bedroom is right next door. He does not sleep with me in my bed or in my bedroom. I used a belly band early on but as he gets used to your schedule, he learns to hold it. Very rarely will he have accidents in the house. He is taken out usually every 4 hours, sometimes a little more frequent. I live in a condo complex and does take some time to actually get outside, so he knows to hold it until we actually get outside. Snoopy is fine in the car and absolutely loves the windows cracked while he sticks his nose out the window while the wind blows in his hair.

He gets used to certain noises and when he hears to jiggling of his leash, he'll know to get up from the couch or his bed and will come to the door to go for a walk. If he does need to go out, he will let you know. He does like to mark and will stop every few steps to sniff and mark his territory. He doesn't mark inside the house but if visiting friends in a different house with pets, he will mark inside. Using a belly band would be wise in these instances.

Snoopy sleeps most of the time when you are around. He'll lay on the couch just gazing at you while you work or watch tv. When you are eating around him, he will come to you for food. I've learned to feed him before I make my food so he'll be full enough not to bother you. Just be careful not to leave food laying on the counter or kitchen table as he is a very good jumper and will grab the food when no one is looking. Snoopy is gated off when I am not home, but if I take a shower and leave him in the living room, he'll manage to find his way onto the kitchen table and get into things he shouldn't be doing. Therefore it is VERY important to keep food and medications or anything harmful to him off the counter when you are not there to watch.

The only downside is his separation anxiety. When left alone, he will cry, whimper, and bark until you are back. Very rarely does he urinate anymore - I'll leave for 5-6 hours and no accidents. Luckily, he does not chew on furniture.

Snoopy loves his squeeky toys and treats. He knows where the food is kept and will try getting into it when he knows it's dinner time. He is fed around 5 pm every day and walked 2 hours later. Then once more before bed time."

Snoopy is just a big love that wants someone to give him the love and attention he deserves. Won't you be that person? If you are interested in adopting Snoopy, please fill out an application at this link: http://www.bichonrescuenj.com/bichon-frise-rescue-nnj-adoption-app.html
