Sneezy is one of several little dogs rescued from a hoarding situation and had lived his whole life outside prior to becoming our guest. We doubt that he'd ever had much human contact and what there was of it doesn't seem to have been positive. The day Sneezy arrived at ACS, he was filthy dirty and infested with fleas and engorged ticks. A quick bath and some flea/tick preventative quickly improved Sneezy's appearance but it's going to take a lot more than that to heal his tortured soul. The poor guy is terrified to be touched but is very slowly coming around. He now wags his tail when we approach his kennel and he seems to be getting more comfortable when we go to take him outside or bring him inside. Leash-walking is still new and frightening to him but we're sure, with time and patience, he'll come to love this activity as much as our other dogs do. Sneezy loves to play with toys and is especially fond of squeaky toys. We can only imagine how horrible and miserable Sneezy's previous life was and we don't blame him for being so reserved. But we know from the glimpses he's given us that there's a fun-loving and affectionate dog hiding inside just waiting to come out. The person who adopts this little guy is going to need a lot of patience and be must committed to however long it will take for Sneezy to let down his guard and be the happy little dog he desperately wants to be. Although he came from a hoarding situation, or maybe because of it, Sneezy tends to be on guard around other dogs - especially with food - so he may do better in a home where he'll be the only dog. Then again, in the right home, Sneezy may come to realize that other dogs can be fun playmates, not just competition for food. If you would like to give Sneezy a loving and committed home, just stop by the shelter and ask to meet him. It will probably take you several visits to win his trust but we think he is well worth the effort. NOTE: Because of his "flight" tendency, we are requiring a fenced yard for Sneezy. /// SNEEZY IS SPONSORED THRU FEBRUARY 2019 BY MARGARET STAPLETON IN LOVING MEMORY OF HENRI (NEE SPINNER), HER ACS CANINE COMPANION OF 13 YEARS.
