Smudge (Project Homebound)'s Story
Why Choose Me?
Smudge is currently at Project Homebound and she's about to graduate! The Project Homebound Dog Training Program is a partnership between ACC Animal Services, ACC Department of Corrections, and Athenspets. Dogs from ACCAS are brought to live in a specialized enclosure on Corrections property. There, they are trained and socialized by pairs of Returning Citizens the program's professional dog trainer.

Doggie Day Out:

Wow this girl is a completely different version of herself outside of the shelter environment. At the shelter she is very nervous and on edge, and I am guessing that makes it hard for potential adopters passing by her kennel to see her greatness! I'm pretty sure shelter staff have been working with her to build some confidence though, and I learned yesterday that your patience with her will quickly be rewarded. When she comes out of her shell she is excited to explore, play, cuddle, and just relax.

She loved being our staff doggie for the day and dutifully checked on everyone in their offices periodically, always with the biggest, friendliest tail wag. She became totally at ease and didn't bark once. She enjoyed being showered with toys and LOVES fetch! She made sure to stick close by to me throughout the day and clearly is ready to have a person to call her own. After watching her transform in a matter of hours, I am so curious who she will become even just a few days out of the shelter. I hope that happens for her soon! I totally love her.

*Her previous adopter said that she chases cats, so will likely need to be in a home without them. I am not sure how she is with other dogs, but she seemed comfortable with them at the fenceline at the shelter and I could see her really benefiting from having a confident dog by her side.
* * *

Smudge was adopted earlier this year but is now looking for a new home. She enjoyed chasing toys, sitting for treats, and getting scratches along her back. Her former owner said Smudge lived as an indoor dog and is house trained and crate trained. She'd chase the cat and probably needs to be in a cat-free home. Still, she's a sweet, playful pup who longs to be someone's best friend.

You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA.
